Toshiya Miyata’s Pokémon Horizons Cameo Was a UNITE Pitch

Toshiya Miyata voiced the unnamed leader of Shining Oceans in Pokémon Horizons episode 141 on June 19, 2026. The Kis-My-Ft2 singer had already spent that winter as cheerleader for the Pokémon UNITE Asia Champions League.

The Friday slot ran as the TV half of a June in-game sale, and a quiz hid gift codes inside the broadcast.

The Rising Volt Tacklers Beat the Idol Team

Episode 141, titled READY GO! Unite Battle!!, is the 141st chapter of Pokémon Horizons and the 1,373rd episode of the animated series. It ran at 6:55 p.m. on TV Tokyo in a 25-minute slot, the same night Quaquaval joined UNITE as a playable fighter.

Friede signed the young Rising Volt Tacklers into a special match on Aeos Island after his colleague Professor Phorus told him a team had dropped out three days before the event. Their opponents were Shining Oceans, a five-member idol squad billed as both popular and good at Unite Battles. Miyata played the leader. His partner was Sirfetch’d, the leek knight known in Japanese as Negigaknight.

The official anime account posted the leader’s model sheet on May 27, 2026, 23 days before the air date, and asked viewers to watch how the Unite Battle would unfold.

The match was held at Remoat Stadium. Liko, Roy, Dot, Ult, and Friede had never played this format. They still won on a last-second goal by Captain Pikachu, after Zapdos appeared as the late-game objective and the score values doubled in the Final Stretch. Shining Oceans took the loss and said they would train harder. The winners walked back onto the field in Holowear.

People who already knew Miyata as a game-obsessed idol did not treat the booking as a stunt. The sharper tell sat outside the credits. UNITE hid quiz answers in the episode and turned those answers into gift codes, so watching Friday night was a way to claim in-game treasure.

Miyata Arrived as UNITE’s Installed Face

Miyata is one of six members of Kis-My-Ft2, a singer, dancer, and TV regular who has said he plays UNITE every day. In a June interview he recalled rewatching the weekly Pokémon anime as a child, memorizing the lines, and reciting whole episodes under his breath on the way to school. When the Horizons part was announced, he said he has watched the show since he was a kid, thinks he may be the best UNITE player in show business, and felt he was the right person for the role.

The anime job was not his first unpaid-looking shift for the game. On January 11, 2026, he was named cheerleader for Pokémon UNITE Asia Champions League 2026. He said he was simply glad, because it was the game he already played every day, and that he felt a duty to hype it because he likes it. His favorite UNITE fighter is Espeon. He has also said the fun of the game is moving a favorite Pokémon with your own hands.

STARTO Entertainment listed him on the UNITE Asia Champions League 2026 finals talent page for those Yokohama dates. By the time Horizons needed an idol who could sell a 5-on-5 match, the game already had one on the books.

The dubbing was not as easy as the press line. Miyata said the session was fun, then admitted he struggled with the idea of talking through orders to Sirfetch’d, a kind of acting that career voice actors do without a pause. Kenta Miyake, a series regular, voiced the duck. Some viewers said they did not clock a guest at all. Others heard a little stiffness next to the main cast and still called the line reads fine for a one-shot leader.

What Players Unlocked During the June Event

The anime did not wander onto Aeos Island by accident. Pokémon UNITE opened a Horizons tie-up on June 4, 2026, at 4 p.m. Japan time, and kept pieces of it running through July 1. The official Asia site put the Friday broadcast on the same page as the licenses, the clothes, and the solo-mode stage.

THE JUNE UNITE DROP

Skeledirge’s Adventure Challenge in June ran on that official page beside the quiz rules. The quiz asked players to check UNITE’s social posts, hunt the answers in the June 19 episode, and combine three keywords into a fourth secret code. The prizes were a Rising Volt Tacklers decoration, an item-power boost, a partner-progress item, and a fourth reward for anyone who found all three answers.

That is a closed loop. The game pointed at the TV slot. The TV slot taught Unite Moves, Holowear, and the late Zapdos fight. The quiz then sent viewers back into the game with codes. Roy’s Skeledirge and Dot’s Quaquaval were not random guest Pokémon. They were the two licenses UNITE was putting on sale that month.

Sirfetch’d, Zapdos, and the Final Stretch

Screenwriter Michihiro Tsuchiya and storyboard artist Yūji Asada, working with OLM Team Kumemura, staged the match as a primer. Friede explains the rules while the kids eat the mistakes a new UNITE lobby always makes: they split up, they waste energy, they leave a goal open, and they stare when the other team fires a Unite Move for the first time.

Shining Oceans’ set was built from the game’s roster, not from a concert set list. The leader’s Sirfetch’d used Brutal Swing and Fury Cutter, then the Unite Move Lunging Leek Nova Blast. Amped Toxtricity used Overdrive and Venom Distortion. Zoroark used Nightfall Daze. Clefable healed with Moonlight. Vaporeon removed Ult’s Sableye with Flip Turn. On the other side, Meowscarada’s Floral Flourish, Cap’s Thunderstorm, Skeledirge’s Rousing Symphony, Quaquaval’s Carnival Splash, and Sableye’s Chaos Glower all landed as named Unite Moves.

HOW THE EPISODE COPIED THE GAME

• Energy first: Both teams farmed wild Pokémon for Aeos energy before they could fire Unite Moves.
• Last hit: The trainer who landed the final blow on a wild Pokémon claimed its energy, which is why Sirfetch’d kept cutting in on Liko.
• Open goal: Cap scored the first point because Shining Oceans left their goal zone empty.
• Final Stretch: With two minutes left, every goal counted double, which is the window Friede had been saving Unite Moves for.
• Zapdos: The Legendary bird arrived as the high-value objective with about five minutes on the clock.
• Grass ambush: Ult parked Sableye in the grass and cancelled Sirfetch’d’s last-hit attempt with Chaos Glower.

One beat did not match the game. The anime collected Aeos energy with wristbands on the Pokémon, not with Unite Balls. The rest of the geometry, from the split-up open to the doubled finish, was a moving tutorial. After the win, the crew’s Pokémon appeared in Holowear, the same cosmetic layer UNITE was selling as Captain Style Pikachu.

On the first TV Tokyo airing, the usual Mega Study with Instructor Starmie segment and the next-episode preview were pulled. In their place came extra UNITE announcements and a bonus scene with Zirco. That extra scene was cut from later video-on-demand copies and posted on its own on the official Pokémon YouTube channel. Even the credits bump was inventory space.

Wonder Voyage Turns Friday Night Into a Shop Window

Horizons entered its Wonder Voyage stretch on May 22, 2026. The key art already pointed at Pokémon GO, Pokémon UNITE, and Pokémon Sleep. Episode 141 was the UNITE week. It was not the last time the arc borrowed a stage from a phone or Switch title, and it was not the last idol booking.

On July 17, 2026, the staff said CUTIE STREET, the group that sings the ending theme Cute na Kyūtai, would guest as the Cutie Pika Pika idol group in episode 147. That episode aired on August 28. Liko entered a Pokémon Contest and had to watch a Pikachu idol act before she performed. Miyata’s Shining Oceans team was the first idol unit in this series. It was not a one-off gag. Two months later the show hired another pop act and put them in the ring as Pikachu idols.

The next mapped tie-up is Pokémon GO. A Horizons episode built around that game is set for September 18, 2026, with Professor Willow in the cast and in-game hooks that include a Charmander in Friede’s goggles and a Pikachu in Cap’s hat. UNITE marked its own fifth anniversary on July 21, 2026, with Yveltal, Palkia, Reshiram, and Solgaleo headed to Aeos Island. The Friday anime and the live-service calendar are sharing a planner.

This is not new for Pokémon television. The weekly show has long been a place to put current games on screen. Wonder Voyage just makes the handoff blunt. Aeos Island is a real map in UNITE. Remoat Stadium is a real arena. The Holowear on the victory lap is a real shop item. The quiz made the broadcast a login mission with a voice cast.

Netflix Still Has No Date for Episode 141

English-speaking viewers who came in through Netflix do not have this episode. Horizons launched in Japan on April 14, 2023, reached BBC iPlayer in the United Kingdom in December 2023, and arrived in North America on Netflix on March 7, 2024. The Search for Laqua went up on February 7, 2025. Rising Hope began on January 6, 2026, with another English batch on March 20, 2026. From HZ137 on, including 141, no English title or air date has been posted.

Japan was not the only same-day window. Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Taiwan carried the episode on YouTube on June 19, 2026. The TV Tokyo Pocket Monsters official page remains the home listing for the Friday 6:55 p.m. slot. For anyone waiting on a dub, Shining Oceans, Miyata’s line reads, and the Zapdos finish are still a Japan-first packet that UNITE players could cash in during the last ten days of June.

Miyata did not exit the game when the credits ran. In July he was named a Tokyo Game Show 2026 supporter and talked about waking up with a UNITE match before coffee. On August 3 he posted from a World Championships booth, standing with Pikachu and Snorlax, still inside the title he had just taught to Friday-night kids.
