Ondo Finance switched on Ondo Network on July 27, 2026, a hardware-based execution layer meant to replace the public blockchain it unveiled with BlackRock and Franklin Templeton in 2025. Ondo Perps, the firm’s perpetual futures platform for stocks and commodities, becomes the network’s first live application. Chief executive Ian De Bode told ChainCatcher the company will not run the new network alongside the old one, Ondo Chain, at the same time.

Ondo unveiled that original chain on February 3, 2025, on stage in New York, with design advisors from Franklin Templeton, Wellington Management and Google Cloud, plus ecosystem members BlackRock, PayPal and Morgan Stanley. About a year and a half later, that chain is being set aside for a system built on secure hardware chips instead of a validator set of banks and asset managers.

Why Trade Execution Became Ondo’s Bottleneck

Ondo Finance announced Ondo Network on its official X account on July 27, 2026. Ondo Finance chief executive Ian De Bode told ChainCatcher the new system is an evolution of the earlier Ondo Chain plan, and that the company will not run both networks at the same time.

The shift traces back to Ondo Perps. Once traders started using that platform, Ondo’s own testing traced the slowdown to the trading engine itself. Settlement on the blockchain afterward was already fast enough. Splitting the infrastructure into three separate jobs, execution, validation and settlement, became the fix.

Public blockchains typically run all three of those jobs on one ledger. That structure gives every participant a shared, durable record, but it slows trades down and exposes order flow to anyone watching the chain.

Ondo Network moves execution into secure hardware enclaves, private compute environments that process orders without exposing them to the network’s own operator. A separate set of decentralized attestors checks that only approved code runs inside those enclaves, while asset transfers still settle on a public blockchain, currently Ethereum.

The Blue-Chip Chain That Never Quite Launched

Ondo Chain was never a small idea. Ondo Finance introduced it on February 3, 2025, on stage in New York, describing a public, proof-of-stake Layer 1 blockchain built for institutional-grade real-world assets, one where validators could stake tokenized assets instead of native tokens.

Design advisors on the project included Franklin Templeton, Wellington Management, WisdomTree, Google Cloud, ABN Amro and Aon. BlackRock, PayPal and Morgan Stanley joined as ecosystem members, and executives from DTCC, Fidelity, BNY and State Street Investment Management appeared on stage that same day. Ondo’s own year-end recap, published in December 2025, still described Ondo Chain only in the past tense, as something the company had announced.

Four dates mark the distance between that announcement and this week’s launch:

  1. February 3, 2025: Ondo unveils Ondo Chain at its New York summit, naming Franklin Templeton, Wellington Management, WisdomTree, Google Cloud, ABN Amro and Aon as design advisors alongside ecosystem members BlackRock, PayPal and Morgan Stanley.
  2. July 7, 2026: Ondo Perps launches for eligible investors outside the United States, offering up to 20x leverage on tokenized stocks, indices and commodities.
  3. July 23, 2026: Oasis Pro Markets, Ondo’s regulated brokerage subsidiary, wins FINRA and SEC authorization to bring tokenized NMS equities, ETFs, mutual funds, index funds and IPO securities to U.S. investors.
  4. July 27, 2026: Ondo Network goes live, with De Bode confirming Ondo Chain and Ondo Network will not operate at the same time.

Ondo has not said whether Ondo Chain will launch in the form it originally announced.

Trading Execution Splits From Settlement for Speed

De Bode called the result something new. “The Ondo network is a new type of architecture,” he said, describing a system meant to support privacy, high-speed execution, self-custody, verifiable fairness and permissionless access.

Under that design, trades execute inside the enclaves, a rotating quorum of attestors verifies that only approved code touched the order, and the resulting asset transfer settles on a public chain. Settlement can happen in fiat currency or in supported stablecoins, including directly between blockchain wallets, according to Ondo.

Attribute Ondo Chain (announced Feb. 2025) Ondo Network (live July 2026)
Core structure Single public, proof-of-stake Layer 1 blockchain Execution, attestation and settlement run as separate layers
Who checks the trades Permissioned validators staking tokenized assets Secure hardware enclaves plus a decentralized attestor quorum
Where assets settle Native chain settlement Ethereum first, with more public chains planned
First live application None disclosed Ondo Perps
Running status, July 2026 Announced, never confirmed live Live, will not run alongside Ondo Chain per De Bode

Ondo’s own writeup argues a system can be trustworthy if every action is independently verifiable, even without running on a public ledger step by step. The company points to how several layer 2 networks already centralize execution for speed while settling final state on a base chain.

Can Hardware Enclaves Deliver Verifiable Fairness?

Mostly yes, with one catch: the guarantee depends on trusting the physical chip. Trusted execution environments, or TEEs, isolate code inside hardware so the operator cannot see or alter what runs, and can produce cryptographic proof of what actually executed. That proof is only as strong as the chip maker’s own security record.

Intel’s SGX enclaves, the most widely deployed version of this technology, have suffered multiple side-channel research exploits over the past decade. Crypto researchers at a16z describe confidentiality, recoverability and attestation as the enclave’s core guarantees, each still resting on hardware a handful of chipmakers control.

Other platforms selling permissionless access carry their own fine print. Hyperliquid’s prediction markets still require a $30 million deposit to list a new market, even though the product is marketed as open to anyone. Ondo has not disclosed how many attestors currently sit in its own quorum.

Oasis Pro Turns Ondo Into a Regulated Broker

Four days before Ondo Network went live, Ondo’s brokerage arm took its own step toward Wall Street. On July 23, 2026, Oasis Pro Markets won authorization from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to offer U.S. investors direct access to NMS equities (stocks trading on the U.S. National Market System), ETFs, mutual funds, index funds and IPO securities.

Oasis Pro already held status as an SEC-registered broker-dealer and an alternative trading system, or ATS, a licensed venue for matching buy and sell orders outside a traditional exchange. Its transfer agent unit, Oasis Pro TA, mints the tokens directly on Ethereum, while regulated custodians hold the underlying shares. Settlement can run in fiat currency or supported stablecoins, including transfers made directly between blockchain wallets, according to Ondo.

Ripple’s XRP Ledger community is chasing the same institutional settlement demand from a different chain, drafting its own smart escrow and confidential transfer upgrades aimed at bank-grade tokenization. Oasis Pro’s new authorizations, by contrast, already cleared FINRA and the SEC.

A $59 Trillion Bet

Ondo Perps went live on July 7, 2026, for eligible investors outside the United States, offering leverage up to 20x on tokenized stocks, indices and commodities. Traders can post tokenized equities or stablecoins as collateral, then open leveraged positions in names including Apple, Nvidia, Tesla, Amazon and Coinbase, alongside gold and silver.

Ondo has framed the addressable market in blunt terms, a combined $59 trillion across global equities, commodities and index markets, the figure the company cites as the ceiling if trading migrates from conventional brokers to always-open, on-chain venues. Ondo has not disclosed trading volume on the platform since launch.

Staking Roles and Public Settlement Come Next

Ondo has already sketched what comes after this version of the network. Future updates may add:

  • Broader participation in the attestor set beyond its current members
  • Proof-of-stake security layered onto the enclave-based design
  • Settlement of the network’s own state directly on public blockchains
  • Additional cryptographic proofs covering more of the execution process
  • Selective privacy controls for specific trades or participants
  • New staking roles tied to the network’s operation

Ethereum’s own core developers are weighing a related tradeoff in a separate roadmap, balancing privacy and quantum-resistant proofs against the cost of running every step through public verification. The Lean Ethereum plan for privacy and quantum resistance was developed independently of Ondo’s work, aiming at a comparable split between what runs privately and what settles on a public chain.

Ondo’s answer, for now, keeps the durable record inside its own enclaves. Traders cannot yet independently audit that record on a public chain.

Over time, the network will also commit the settled state to public blockchains.

De Bode, Ondo Finance’s chief executive, said the enclaves hold that record today, with future updates expected to expand what gets written to a public settlement layer. Ondo said the launch does not change the ONDO token’s role as the governance and incentive token across its real-world asset ecosystem.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Ondo Network different from a typical layer 2 blockchain?

Most layer 2 blockchains centralize execution through a single sequencer, then post the resulting state back to a base chain like Ethereum for final settlement. Ondo Network follows a similar split but replaces the sequencer with secure hardware enclaves and adds an independent quorum of attestors that checks only approved code ran inside them.

Can retail investors buy tokenized stocks through Oasis Pro?

Yes. Oasis Pro Markets’ FINRA and SEC authorizations, granted July 23, 2026, cover both retail and institutional investors, giving them access to tokenized NMS equities, ETFs, mutual funds, index funds and IPO securities through a regulated broker-dealer structure.

Why hasn’t Ondo Perps launched for U.S. traders yet?

Ondo has not given a timeline for opening Ondo Perps to U.S. traders. The platform launched on July 7, 2026, for eligible investors outside the United States, while U.S. investors currently get regulated exposure to tokenized equities through Oasis Pro Markets instead.

What is a trusted execution environment, in plain terms?

A trusted execution environment is a sealed section of a computer chip that runs code privately, hidden even from the operator of the machine it sits on, and can generate cryptographic proof of exactly what code it ran. Intel, AMD and other chipmakers each build their own versions.

What is Ondo Global Markets, and how does it relate to Ondo Network?

Ondo Global Markets is a separate tokenization platform Ondo unveiled alongside Ondo Chain in February 2025, offering 24/7 tokenized exposure to widely traded stocks such as Apple. It operates apart from both Ondo Perps and the new Ondo Network.
