Age of Empires Delivers Its Crowded 2026 Content Bet

World’s Edge has shipped its 2026 Age of Empires plan, then added three Norse packs in one autumn, with The Viking Sagas due September 22.

World’s Edge has shipped the 2026 Age of Empires plan it laid out on December 9, 2025, then stacked extra Norse DLC on top. The Last Chieftains, Obsidian Mirror, Yue Fei’s Legacy, Age of Empires Mobile on PC, and Red Bull Wololo: Londinium are all out.

Two dated items still sit on the calendar. The Viking Sagas launches September 22. Raiders of the North is listed only as fall. Age of Mythology has had no named follow-up since the Aztec pass closed.

The studio posted that preview as 2025 ended, after a year it called the most content-rich in franchise history: 6 expansions across 3 games, PlayStation 5 ports for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, Age of Mythology: Retold, and Age of Empires IV, and a first-of-its-kind tie with the Louvre. The 2026 tape is the test of whether that pace was a spike or a plan.

The December Preview Became a Shipping Calendar

The December 9 post named a South American Age II DLC for February, four Age of Mythology releases under a new Expansion Pass, two Age IV expansions, a PC edition of Age of Empires Mobile, and Wololo in London. Forgotten Empires, Tantalus Media, Relic Entertainment, TiMi Studio Group, and Feral Interactive did the building. World’s Edge held the calendar.

Almost every product on that list now has a ship date behind it rather than in front of it. The extras are the tell. Age II is getting a second 2026 DLC the preview never mentioned. Age III, which was absent from the December note, put out The Baltic Powers on September 10. Age IV’s second pack is still a season, not a day.

THE 2026 SLATE, SCORED

Release Game Date Status
New Gods Pack: Demeter Age of Mythology: Retold February 10, 2026 Out
The Last Chieftains Age of Empires II: DE February 17, 2026 Out
Red Bull Wololo: Londinium Age II and Age IV April 1-6, 2026 Done
Obsidian Mirror Age of Mythology: Retold April 21, 2026 Out
Yue Fei’s Legacy Age of Empires IV May 7, 2026 Out
Age of Empires Mobile: PC Edition Mobile / PC June 23, 2026 Out
The Baltic Powers Age of Empires III: DE September 10, 2026 Out
The Viking Sagas Age of Empires II: DE September 22, 2026 Pre-order
Raiders of the North Age of Empires IV Fall 2026 Announced

The original wording for Mobile was “early 2026.” It landed June 23, with mouse and keyboard, 4K presentation, and cross-play back to the phone build that went live in October 2024. That is the one slip on the named list, and it is a window, not a miss.

Mapuche, Muisca, and Tupi Join Ranked Play

The Last Chieftains is the South America chapter Age II still lacked. Forgotten Empires shipped it February 17 on Steam, Microsoft Store, Xbox, and PlayStation 5, with a new shared architecture set and three civilizations built for ranked. Steam lists it at $19.99, the same tag the next Age II pack now carries.

The studio’s own FAQ is larger than the December teaser. Owners get 15 missions across three new campaigns, a reworked Inca civ for anyone who owns the base game, and a reworked Pachacuti campaign on the same terms. Pre-order ran at 15 percent off, the discount World’s Edge now uses as a default.

THE LAST CHIEFTAINS ROSTER

  • Mapuche: Cavalry and counter-unit play, with the Kona dealing extra damage to injured targets and the Bolas Rider slowing enemies.
  • Muisca: Andean economy and ranged troops, with the Guecha Warrior healing nearby Guecha Warriors on death and the Temple Guard attacking faster the longer it fights.
  • Tupi: Jungle infantry and cheap mass, with Blackwood Archers training in pairs and the Ibirapema Warrior dealing area damage.

The campaigns follow Lautaro against Pedro de Valdivia, Pacanchique through the El Dorado struggle, and Arariboia bargaining with the Portuguese. Ranked eligibility was the design brief, not a later patch. Steam’s product page puts Mapuche, Muisca, and Tupi on ranked from day one, which is how a 2019 remaster still feeds a live ladder. That ladder for Wololo opened January 2.

Veterans argued about price and campaign length the week it landed, the same fight every three-civ pack now draws. The architecture set is the part that will still be in screenshots a year from now, because Definitive Edition had not added a new base-game look this large since launch.

What the Aztec Pantheon Adds

Heavenly Spear in September 2025 closed the Premium Edition promise for Age of Mythology: Retold. The December post answered the obvious next question with an Expansion Pass: four releases, no separate checkout on each date, and a 15 percent pre-order that opened December 18.

Demeter unlocked February 10 as a new Greek major god, with Pan, Hestia, and Persephone and a voiced mythical battle, Silent Sanctuary. The Ultimate Fan Pack and the Blood & Bones visual pack followed inside the same pass; Blood & Bones stays exclusive to pass owners. The capstone, Obsidian Mirror, shipped April 21.

The Aztec roster is three major gods and nine minor gods. Quetzalcoatl leans on wind, culture, and speed. Tezcatlipoca runs night, chaos, and illusion. Huitzilopochtli wants sacrifice and pays it back in raw power. The new resource loop is Tonalli, life force taken in battle and, if you push it, from your own villagers. Fear, traps, and illusion sit on top of the old favor model.

We are very excited to finally bring you the Aztec pantheon. The team put our hearts and souls into this one, and we really hope you enjoy it!

Age of Mythology Team, Obsidian Mirror launch notes, April 21, 2026

The campaign is 12 missions. When Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlipoca wreck Aztlan, Huitzilopochtli leads a migration south and Tezcatlipoca steps through the mirror to recruit help on other continents. The patch that shipped with the DLC also added 13 achievements, 5 new random maps, relics, cheat codes, and editor tools. Steam files 80 percent of 336 user reviews as positive, a Very Positive score.

That pass is complete. The next public Age calendar is historical titles and a mobile port. Players who main Egypt are already asking for a fourth major god, because the original trio is the last of the launch cultures without a new one, and nothing on the remaining 2026 list answers them.

A Sold-Out Night at the Royal Albert Hall

Wololo tickets went on sale December 3, 2025, for April 1 through 6 in London, a 6-day run World’s Edge billed as the biggest Wololo yet. Playoffs sat at the ODEON Luxe in Leicester Square. The grand final took the Royal Albert Hall, the first time that room hosted esports. Playoff and finals tickets sold out; refunds were the only path back in.

Hamzah “Hera” El-Baher won the Age II bracket 5-3 over Liereyy. Liquipedia’s tournament tracker puts that Age II prize pool at $170,000. On the Age IV side, Alexis “MarineLorD” Eusebio beat Wam01 and MarineLorD retained his Wololo crown for a third straight year, the hold he has had on this event since the Age IV bracket began in 2022.

A sold-out Hall is the image World’s Edge wanted from the year: a 1999 series playing a room built for orchestras, with Age II and Age IV sharing the bill. The in-game ladder that fed the Age II field had been live since January 2. For a live-service RTS, that is the proof the ranked civs actually get used.

The First New Age IV Campaign Since 2023

December promised two Age IV expansions. The first, a Chinese history campaign, was due in spring. Yue Fei’s Legacy shipped May 7 with 8 missions on Song general Yue Fei against the Jin, plus the Jin Dynasty as a playable civ, 4 maps, and 2 biomes. It is the first new Age IV campaign since The Sultans Ascend in 2023.

The second pack was only “later in the year,” with Vikings named and a second civ held back. Xbox Showcase on June 7 filled that blank. Raiders of the North adds Vikings and Scots, 4 new Crucible missions, two-player co-op, new boons, and two biomes, Scottish Heathland and Tundra Summer. Co-op on Crucible is the item players asked for after Dynasties of the East; in December the team would only say it was looking into it.

Vikings in Age IV are a Longhouse economy, Bondi spearmen with a shield wall, Hirdmen in the man-at-arms role, and Berserkers on the box art. Scots hide in stealth forests, muster Gallowglass and Border Reivers at a discount, and pull Highland cattle off berry bushes into tower houses. The pack still has no day, only fall, which Steam’s DLC list files as Q4.

On July 30 World’s Edge put the half-year on paper and raised the lifetime line from more than 70 million players in December to 75 million players across the Age games. Feral Interactive brought Age II to macOS in May. Mobile: PC Edition is the outlier in that count, a TiMi kingdom-builder with cross-play and in-game purchases, not another classic RTS, sitting on Steam, Microsoft Store, and PC Game Pass.

Three Norse Packs Share One Autumn

The December preview did not mention a second Age II expansion, and it did not mention Age III at all. Both arrived once the named spring list was clear. The result is three northern packs in one season, two of them using the word Danes, across three different Age games.

The Viking Sagas is the Age II one, on pre-order with the usual 15 percent off, launching September 22. Forgotten Empires is building it. The new civs are Danes, Saxons, and Varangians, with a free rework of the old Vikings civ for base-game owners, a new architecture set, and a 15-mission Harald Hardrada campaign in three books. Jomsvikings throw torches at buildings and ships. The Saxon Hearth Troop leads with a javelin. The Varangian Jarl hurls axes from horseback. Shared regional units include Varangian Guards, Mounted Crossbowmen, and Longships.

Hardrada’s oath in the pre-order copy runs through fame, the throne of Norway, and a last grab at England in 1066. Book I is the exile in the east. Book II is the fight with Svein Estridsson. Book III is Stamford Bridge country, with Harold Godwinson waiting. Interactive campaign choices and hero abilities sit on top of the usual mission list. All three civs are due on ranked at launch, same rule as The Last Chieftains.

The Baltic Powers, out September 10 for Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, puts Danes on a second Age game in the same month, this time beside the Poles. World’s Edge said the DLC came with the largest Age III update it has shipped. The box is 2 civs, 2 challenge scenarios, Regicide and Independence modes, more than 25 maps, and more than 50 hero customizations. The pack had been announced, delayed, and cancelled before this revival.

THE REST OF 2026

  1. September 10, 2026: The Baltic Powers is out for Age of Empires III, with Danes and Poles.
  2. September 22, 2026: The Viking Sagas launches for Age of Empires II, with Danes, Saxons, and Varangians.
  3. Fall 2026: Raiders of the North is due for Age of Empires IV, with Vikings, Scots, and Crucible co-op.

That is a lot of longships for one queue. People who grew up on The Conquerors still get a jolt from snow and dragon-prow art, which is why a double Viking year sells. It is also why a mythology player staring at a closed Expansion Pass feels the calendar moving without them. The bet World’s Edge placed in December is mostly paid. The invoice it wrote itself for autumn is three Norse receipts and an Age of Mythology sequel pass that still does not have a name.

The next day on the schedule is September 22. After that the public calendar goes back to a season, and the Aztec game waits.

Ten years in journalism sit behind that, a reporter's stretch followed by an editor's, and the habits show in what he reads before he writes: the filing rather than the results announcement, the judgment rather than a summary of it, the electoral authority's own count, the safety notice as the regulator issued it, the paper with its sample size and its stated limitations, the governing body's official record, the specification sheet, the release notes. Figures get checked against whatever produced them, then checked again for the base they were calculated from.
