Mars vs. Earth: The Big Conflict in Season 5
7 Season five picks up in the years since the Goldilocks asteroid heist. Happy Valley has grown into a thriving colony with thousands of residents and a base for new missions that will take us even further into the Solar System. But with the nations of Earth now demanding law and order on the Red Planet, friction continues to build between the people who live on Mars and their former home. 5 Season 5 picks up in the alt 2010s with President Bragg declaring, “My administration will put Earth back in charge.” 2 Also highlighted is Edi Gathegi’s Dev Ayesa, the charismatic Helios Aerospace visionary, and his insistence that Happy Valley must stand up and become masters of their own destiny.
The premiere episode, titled “First Light,” introduced a shocking first for the show: a murder mystery on Mars. 34A North Korean refugee named Yoon Tae Min is found dead on the Red Planet by Kelly Baldwin’s son, Alex. Though the man’s death is initially ruled a suicide, it is later discovered that Yoon was murdered.
29 Billed primarily as a sci fi show, For All Mankind is also an alt history drama, a space opera, and a political thriller. “First Light” adds yet another wrinkle to the show’s genre bending formula with the first ever homicide case on Mars.
Returning Cast and Fresh Faces Join the Fight
14 Returning cast members include Joel Kinnaman as Ed Baldwin, Toby Kebbell as Miles Dale, Edi Gathegi as Dev Ayesa, Cynthy Wu as Kelly Baldwin, Coral Pena as Aleida Rosales, Wrenn Schmidt as Margo Madison, Krys Marshall as Danielle Poole, and others such as Svetlana Efremova and Daniel Stern. 14 New regulars include Mireille Enos as Celia Boyd of Mars Security, Costa Ronin as Leonid “Lenya” Polivanov, Sean Kaufman as Alex Poletov Baldwin (Ed’s grandson), Ruby Cruz as Lily Dale, and Ines Asserson as A.J. Jarrett. 2 Mireille Enos will be portraying Celia Boyd, a tough officer of Mars’ Peacekeeper Security Force who tries to maintain civility with a full scale rebellion brewing just over the horizon.
One of the most emotional threads so far involves Ed Baldwin himself. 32Ed Baldwin won’t live forever. He has cancer, and (typical Ed) he’s in denial about it. 22Joel Kinnaman’s character, astronaut Ed Baldwin, is quite literally in his 80s at this point. This adds a deeply personal layer to a season already loaded with political tension and generational conflict.
Season 6 Confirmed as the Final Chapter
Just three days before the season 5 premiere, Apple TV dropped even bigger news. 6In March 2026, the series was renewed for a sixth and final season.
19 “Getting to explore the For All Mankind universe over six seasons has been an amazing privilege, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to finish the story the way we’ve always hoped,” said creators Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi. 21 “We’d always said it’d be ‘like six or seven.’ Honestly, the goal was always, from the beginning, getting us to the present. We love the idea of starting from this point of divergence and ending the show in the present day to show how different the world could have been had we kept pushing for progress,” the creators told Collider. 19 For All Mankind has won Emmys for interactive programming and emerging media, as well as the PGA innovation award. It has also been nominated for TCA, Critics Choice, Hugo, Saturn, Art Directors Guild, and other awards.
Key Takeaway: Season 6 will bring the alternate timeline into the 2020s, catching up to the present day, and is set to premiere in 2027.
Star City Spinoff Expands the Universe
While the main series heads toward its conclusion, the For All Mankind universe is far from done.
38 Star City is a propulsive, paranoid thriller that takes us back to the key moment in the alt history retelling of the space race, when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the Moon. 38 The first two episodes of the eight episode season are released together on May 29, followed by weekly releases with the season finale set for July 10. 40 The cast for the new series includes Rhys Ifans, Anna Maxwell Martin, Solly McLeod, Agnes O’Casey, Alice Englert, and three new recent additions, Adam Nagaitis, Josef Davies, and Ruby Ashbourne Serkis. 43 Wolpert explained, “We didn’t want people to think, ‘Oh, I have to have seen For All Mankind to watch Star City.’ I think it’s more like Easter eggs for For All Mankind people.” That is great news for new viewers thinking about jumping in. 2 All four previous seasons of For All Mankind are now available to stream and binge exclusively on Apple TV. Whether you are a longtime fan or completely new to this universe, there has never been a better time to start watching. A show that began with one small step on the Moon is now telling the biggest story about what it means to be human, far away from home. And with only two seasons left, every episode counts.
