Samsung Priced the Galaxy S26 Plus Off a Terabyte

The Galaxy S26 Plus ships with 256 GB or 512 GB of storage, and no 1 TB option, on a phone that still records 8K video. Samsung’s US page still sells those two SKUs with 12 GB of RAM, and it still points anyone who needs more space toward the cloud.

The cut is not a surprise SKU. The 512 GB Plus and the 256 GB Ultra launched at the same $1,299.99 sticker, so the terabyte sits behind an Ultra checkout.

The Plus Stops at 512 GB

Samsung’s own Galaxy S26 hub is blunt about the middle phone. The S26 and S26+ come with 12 GB of memory and two storage options so you can choose by habit, not by a third tier.

Choose 256 GB for keeping your favorite photos and essential apps for daily use. Choose 512 GB if you like gaming, use larger apps or capture hi-res video often.

That is the whole menu. The 6.7-inch Plus, 7.3 mm thick and 190 g, uses the same 50 MP wide, 12 MP ultra-wide, and 10 MP 3x telephoto set as the compact S26, and Samsung’s compare guide still lists 8K at 30 fps on both. The battery is 4,900 mAh with 45W wired charging. None of that unlocks a 1 TB build.

STORAGE AND RAM

The compare page is the one place Samsung says the quiet part. The 1 TB phone is the Ultra, and that SKU is the one that gets 16 GB of RAM.

A 512 GB Plus Costs Ultra Money

US unlocked list prices went up on the S26 and the Plus and held on the cheapest Ultra. The base S26 is $899.99 for 256 GB, $100 above the S25’s start, and the floor is now 256 GB instead of 128 GB. The Plus starts at $1,099.99, also $100 above the S25+ 256 GB phone, and the 512 GB Plus is $1,299.99, which is $180 above last year’s $1,119.99 512 GB S25+.

US LAUNCH LIST

Read the middle row against the Ultra row. Stepping from 256 GB to 512 GB on the Plus is a $200 jump, and that jump lands on the Ultra’s 256 GB price. From there, the next storage door is the Ultra 1 TB at $1,799.99, $500 above the 512 GB Plus, and that is the SKU that adds 16 GB of RAM, the 200 MP camera, the S Pen, and 4K at 120 fps.

The 512 GB Ultra is $1,499.99, $80 above the S25 Ultra’s 512 GB list of $1,419.99. The 1 TB Ultra is $140 above last year’s $1,659.99. Samsung held the 256 GB Ultra at $1,299.99 and let the Plus’s top SKU walk onto that number.

The marketing page still advertises up to $400+ instant trade-in credit, or up to $200 off without a trade-in. Those credits move the out-the-door number. They do not add a third Plus capacity.

Why a Terabyte Never Reached the Plus

Memory chips, not a late software note, explain why a Plus 1 TB SKU would have been a nasty line item. Research firm Omdia put a 12 GB plus 512 GB RAM-and-storage combo at $60 in the third quarter of 2025 and at $202 in the third quarter of 2026, about 3.4 times the earlier bill. An 8 GB plus 256 GB combo went from $35 to $140 in the same window, a clean four times.

Omdia expects those costs to stay high through the first half of 2027. Fabs have been steering wafers toward high-bandwidth memory for AI servers, which pays more than phone LPDDR and UFS, so the cheap 1 TB Plus is the SKU a cost accountant kills first. Samsung’s phone group does not get a family discount from the chip group, which is why a Galaxy can rise even when Samsung also makes the NAND.

On September 23, an India price list circulating on X put the Galaxy S26+ at ₹134,999 after a ₹15,000 lift across Plus variants, with the Ultra 1 TB at ₹214,900 after a ₹25,000 lift. Replies treated that as an opening for OnePlus and Oppo’s Find X9 Ultra, not as a prompt for Samsung to mint a 1 TB Plus. Months after Unpacked, the argument is the memory bill, not a missing SKU code.

8K Footage and a Cloud Account

The Plus still records 8K at 30 fps and 4K at 60 fps, the same video ceiling Samsung lists for the compact S26. The Ultra is the one that adds 4K at 120 fps. There is no card slot on any of them. The compare guide says external SD cards are not supported and tells owners to use cloud services or a larger internal SKU.

WHAT 512 GB HAS TO COVER

• The camera: 8K at 30 fps stays on the Plus, with no microSD overflow when a clip fills the phone.
• The games: Samsung’s own 512 GB pitch is gaming and large apps, on 12 GB of RAM with no third tier.
• The cloud: extra space is a Samsung account and a network, not a tray on the side.
• The upsell: 1 TB is sold with the Ultra and 16 GB of RAM, not as a Plus checkbox.

That pairing is the product. A Plus buyer who films a lot pays $200 to go from 256 GB to 512 GB, then hits a wall that only an Ultra 1 TB removes. Apple still sells an iPhone 17 Pro Max in 2 TB at $1,999, so the storage-max shopper already has a door that does not run through Seoul’s middle Galaxy.

Three Years of the Same Two SKUs

Call it a drop if you want a headline. The shipping history is a freeze. The S24+ launched in January 2024 at $999.99 for 256 GB and $1,119.99 for 512 GB, both with 12 GB of RAM. The S25+ repeated those two capacities. The S26+ is the third Plus in a row with the same pair, only the stickers moved.

The 6.9-inch Ultra is 214 g with a 5,000 mAh cell and 60W wired charging. It is the only S26 with an S Pen, a 200 MP wide camera, a 50 MP ultra-wide, a second 50 MP 5x telephoto, and Privacy Display. It is also the only one with a 1 TB build, and Samsung ties that build to 16 GB of LPDDR5X. The 256 GB and 512 GB Ultras stay on 12 GB.

That split does more than pad a spec sheet. Anyone who wants onboard terabyte space, and the extra RAM that Samsung will actually solder, is done shopping the Plus. US buyers who wanted 512 GB at launch paid the step-up price, with no complimentary storage bump of the kind some earlier Galaxy pre-orders used to throw in.

The US page has not added a Plus 1 TB since March. It still sells 256 GB and 512 GB, still quotes 12 GB, and still sends overflow to the cloud. The terabyte remains an Ultra checkout, sitting $500 above the Plus’s highest SKU, on a phone whose camera Samsung already told 512 GB shoppers they would use for hi-res video.
