X Sells Cashtag Trade Traffic to Five U.S. Brokers

X’s ads team put a U.S. Trade button on cashtags, sending ticker taps to Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Interactive Brokers and Moomoo while X still skips the order.

X opened a U.S. Cashtag Partner Program on September 15 that sends ticker taps to five brokerages, while X itself still does not take the order. The first partners are Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken and Coinbase, and the Trade control lives on cashtag pages for stocks, ETFs and crypto.

The person who sold that story is not a payments chief. Monique Pintarelli, head of global advertising at SpaceXAI, put the firms in the path between a timeline argument and a funded account.

The Trade Button Hands Users to Five Firms

X’s business account posted the U.S. launch of the X Cashtag Partner Program from New York on September 15. A user searches or posts a cashtag such as $AAPL or $BTC, taps it, and lands on an asset page with a live chart and related posts. Trade then sends that person to a partner’s app or site to log in or sign up.

The social app keeps the conversation. The partner keeps KYC, custody and the fill. Identity checks and which tickers can actually be bought still differ by firm, so a cashtag that opens a chart on X may not be tradable at every name in the panel.

HOW A CASHTAG TAP BECOMES AN ORDER

  • Find an asset: Search for or post a cashtag on X.
  • Stay on X first: Open the supported cashtag to see related posts and price information.
  • Pick a firm: Jump to that brokerage’s mobile app or web page, then log in or open an account.
  • Finish elsewhere: Complete the buy or sell at the brokerage, not inside X.

That four-step path is the whole product. Anyone calling it an X exchange is describing a handoff that X spent the year refusing to own.

X Advertising Owns the Last Click

Pintarelli’s title is the tell. The program was announced under SpaceXAI’s global advertising group, and neither X nor the five firms published fees, revenue share or how the Trade list is ranked. The commercial terms are the hole in the launch packet.

With our Cashtag partners, we’re connecting the financial conversation to action. People come to X to discover what’s happening, shape the conversation, and act in real-time on what matters to them. Our Cashtag partners make it possible to move seamlessly from discovery and conversation to a brokerage, without breaking the moment.

A Trade button that sits in an ads org behaves like a referral unit even when nobody says “affiliate.” Three crypto venues and two retail brokers now share one panel in front of the same retail user, which is how you sell attention you already have rather than how you clear an order.

Mridul Singhai, X’s product engineering lead, described the same loop as a product gap. He said cashtags close the space between a ticker on the timeline and the market itself, and that a user who posts or taps a ticker now gets the chart, the thread and a partner to trade with. The chart is X. The ticket is not.

The $100 Bonus on an Interactive Brokers Account

Interactive Brokers treated the hookup as a customer-acquisition buy. New U.S. clients who open and fund a qualifying IBKR account through the cashtag flow receive $100 to start investing, the Greenwich firm said on September 15, with terms and eligibility attached.

Tamara Makonnen, IBKR’s chief marketing officer, said X is where many investors find breaking news and swap ideas, and that the firm wants that path onto its own platform. Existing clients can move from a ticker page into an IBKR account to research or place an order. New users get the signup plus the funded-account credit.

IBKR is not a crypto-only guest in this lineup. Its own note uses $AAPL and $BTC as the examples and points users at a direct path from X to IBKR. The firm says it serves over 5 million client accounts, reaches over 170 global markets, and has been at this for more than four decades. It also repeats its usual pricing pitch: stock and ETF commissions starting at zero, margin rates up to 55% below what it calls the industry average, and crypto trading for up to 85% less than competitors.

Moomoo came in as a social-investing brand rather than a cash bonus. Neil McDonald, chief executive of Moomoo U.S., said the hookup pairs X’s audience with the firm’s trading stack, a suite of more than 150 analytical tools, and over 2,000 educational resources. Moomoo says it is trusted by more than 30 million investors worldwide and cites TradingView’s No. 1 broker-for-stocks rank in North America for 2024 and 2025. Securities go through Moomoo Financial Inc., a FINRA and SIPC member. Crypto goes through Moomoo Crypto Inc., which Moomoo notes is not a broker-dealer and is not available in every state.

WHO SHARES THE TRADE PANEL

Partner What they put on the table Launch extra
Interactive Brokers Stocks and crypto, over 5 million accounts, over 170 markets $100 for new funded U.S. accounts
Moomoo Stocks, ETFs and crypto, more than 150 tools, over 2,000 education items None stated in the release
Gemini Named crypto venue in the first five None disclosed
Kraken Crypto, over 2,400 tokens including Solana and Robinhood Chain names None disclosed
Coinbase Named crypto venue in the first five None disclosed

Robinhood is not in that list. Kraken still used Robinhood Chain tokens as a selling point for what you can buy after the tap.

Three Crypto Exchanges Share One Panel

Coinbase, Kraken and Gemini are competing for the same cashtag traffic inside one Trade sheet. That is a customer-acquisition fight, not a joint market.

Kraken pushed the hardest on day one. “See $XRP on X? Tap to own it on Kraken,” the exchange wrote, adding that U.S. users can tap a crypto cashtag and go straight to Kraken, one tap from feed to order. A follow-up said it is not just bitcoin and ether, and that users can invest in over 2,400 tokens on Kraken, including Robinhood Chain and Solana tokens.

Coinbase’s verified account answered the X business post by asking Grok whether it was true. That is a strange beat from a named launch partner, and it fits a rollout that still reads more like a media buy than a combined order book. Gemini was listed and did not put a comparable public offer on the table in the materials around the launch.

The loud objection under the announcement is not the partner list. It is the missing screen. A Trade control on a cashtag with no extra filter sits one tap from the same meme-coin threads X already struggles to police, and Kraken’s long-tail token count makes that path wider, not narrower.

Canada Got a Broker in April

The U.S. Trade button is late on purpose. X shipped live charts first, then waited five months before American users got a brokerage list that looked like Canada’s early test.

Nikita Bier, then head of product, posted the Cashtags feature in the US and Canada on April 14 for iPhone, with matching for stocks or tokens, including contract addresses, plus a price chart that never left the app. He wrote that billions of dollars are allocated every day based on what people read on Timeline, and that cashtags were a first step toward serving that crowd. Canadian users also got a Wealthsimple button. U.S. users did not.

THE ROAD TO THE U.S. TRADE BUTTON

  1. February 14, 2026: Bier teases Smart Cashtags that would let people trade stocks and crypto from the timeline, then the same day writes that X is not handling trade execution or acting as a brokerage and is only building data tools and links.
  2. April 14, 2026: Cashtags go live for iPhone users in the United States and Canada, with charts, related posts and contract-address matching. Canada gets Wealthsimple. The U.S. does not get a broker button.
  3. April 17, 2026: Bier writes that, based on aggregated data from the trading pilot, X has driven an estimated $1 billion in trading volume globally since launching on Tuesday night.
  4. August 5, 2026: Bier leaves the product-head job and moves to an advisory role. His public bio now reads as former head of product at X.
  5. September 15, 2026: The U.S. Cashtag Partner Program goes live with Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken and Coinbase. Pintarelli, not Bier, is the executive on the ad.

That April volume figure is the number other write-ups keep gluing onto this week’s U.S. launch. It is Bier’s estimate from the first three days of charts and the Canada link, not a volume print for the five-firm American panel that opened on September 15.

Why X Still Refuses to Be the Broker

Bier’s February correction is still the legal design. X will not execute the trade and will not act as a brokerage. The September product is that sentence with five logos under it.

Keeping execution off the social graph avoids broker-dealer duties that would follow if X took the order, held the asset or ran the book. Partners keep licenses, identity checks and complaints. X keeps the audience and, if the ads structure holds, a cut of the click. X Money, which already offers peer-to-peer transfers, direct deposits, a debit card and yield on balances, is a separate stack. Cashtag Trade does not move cash inside that wallet. It leaves the app.

Cashtags close the gap between a ticker on the timeline and the market itself. When you post or tap a ticker, you’re taken right to the asset, where you have seamless access to the live chart, the conversation around it, and now the ability to trade with one of our brokerage partners.

Mridul Singhai, Product Engineering Lead, X

The program is live only for U.S. investors. Product availability at Interactive Brokers still varies by affiliate and by the client’s country of residence, and Moomoo’s crypto arm is not offered in every state. A cashtag is a door. It is not a passport.

The Timeline Now Ends at an Order Ticket

The second effect is cruder than an everything-app slogan. Market talk on X already moves money. The Trade button makes that move measurable for whoever pays to stand in the panel, and it shortens the pause between a viral ticker and a marketable order.

WHAT WE KNOW

  • The handoff: X routes the tap; the chosen firm runs the account and the trade.
  • The five: Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken and Coinbase are the U.S. launch set.
  • The geography: This partner program is for U.S. users; Canada had Wealthsimple with the April charts.
  • The April print: Bier’s estimated $1 billion was tied to the April 14 pilot, posted on April 17.

WHAT IS UNCONFIRMED

  • The money: No partner published what it pays X, or how Trade slots are ordered.
  • The next names: X did not name a second wave of brokers in the September 15 note.
  • The filter: There is no public extra check on cashtag Trade for scam tickers beyond whatever each brokerage already runs.

IBKR is paying $100 to turn a tap into a funded account. Kraken is using a 2,400-token shelf to win the same tap. Coinbase and Gemini stand in the same sheet without a published sweetener. X still does not fill the order. The argument on the timeline now has a door, and five firms are paying, in cash or in inventory, to stand behind it.
