Ascentiz Recruits Developers Around Its Modular Exoskeleton at IFA
Ascentiz is opening BodyOS to developers at IFA 2026, while its hip module is on sale and the knee still has no date.
Ascentiz is showing a modular exoskeleton at IFA Berlin from September 4 to 8, with a hip module on sale and a knee module still undated. The 2023 startup parked the system in Hall 12, Booth 109, around a shared Exo-Belt rather than a fixed full-leg suit.
The stand is dressed like a hiking gadget launch. The people who can make that pitch hold are outside developers, because powered hip belts already sell for less, and the second joint is not in the cart.
A Hip Module on Sale in Hall 12
Private visitors reach IFA Berlin 4 to 8 September from noon on Friday, and Ascentiz is using those five days to put hip and knee hardware on one belt. Ascentiz-H is in the company’s web store now at €1,599 for the H Pro and €2,299 for the H Ultra. Ascentiz-K is listed at €2,399 for the K Pro and €2,999 for the K Ultra. Combined H+K packs are €3,599 for the Pro Combo and €3,999 for the Ultra Combo.
Those euro figures come from the company’s September 3 statement. The same note says K and H+K ship dates will be announced soon. An August 6 product launch had already described the knee module as in mass production, so the hardware is being built while the calendar is not public.

H drives the wearer forward and up for walking, climbing and running. K is sold as Adaptive Knee Augmentation, with active support and braking when load and impact rise on stairs, climbs and descents. Both are meant to clip to the same Exo-Belt through a MOLLE quick-release the company calls AZ-Lock, with CAN-FD carrying power and data between parts.
BodyOS Recruits Builders Before the Knee Ships
Under the belt runs BodyOS, the common control layer for whatever joint is attached. Cody Kou, vice president of Ascentiz, framed the IFA kit as a base that should keep gaining parts instead of a suit you throw away each year.
We chose modularity because people do not move in one way or need the same assistance all the time. Different activities place different demands on the hips and knees. We believe wearable robotics should evolve with those needs, rather than lock every capability into one fixed device. Our goal is to build a platform that can keep gaining new capabilities over time, rather than asking users to start over with each new generation.

That is a developer brief. The firm is opening BodyOS in stages, with DevKit hardware and firmware on the IFA stand and full SDK and API access for the BodyOS Program dated to mid-November. Kou called the opening “a process, not a switch,” with workshops and hackathons meant to follow once the tools settle. The H Ultra store page already advertises an open-source SDK on that model, so November is the wider program, not the first time code is mentioned.
The company about page puts the hardware through six generations of development, from 3D-printed mock-ups to a Gen 6 belt with quick-swap joints, and it invites “developers, creators, and partners” to extend BodyOS. The IFA booth post is the public version of that invite.

The first add-ons showing up around the belt are not gait apps. Ascentiz has been telling buyers to hang a water bottle, camera, gear bag or flashlight on the webbing. In August a hardware builder posted a clip of a small robot arm clamped to the same waist unit, using it as a mount. That is how MOLLE behaves on a pack. It is also a reminder that the open rail will attract gadgets long before it attracts a polished third-party knee.
Why Hip-Only Exoskeletons Are Already Cheap
A buyer who only wants a push at the hips can already shop a finished category. Exoskeleton Index, which tracks commercial walking systems, listed the Hypershell X Ultra S at US$1,999 in August and the DNSYS X1 from US$829, with Ascentiz H Pro sitting in the middle of that hip pack. Several of those products share the same use cases Ascentiz prints on the H Series: walking, hiking, stairs, a bit of running.

Peak watts do not separate them either. The live Ascentiz comparison lists 1000 W and 1100 W peak output for H Pro and H Ultra. Hypershell lists up to 1,000 W on the X Ultra S. Worn weight on both Ascentiz hip kits is 5.5 lb (2.5 kg) with a battery, matching the ballpark of the Hypershell flagship. Pro range is 15.5 miles (25 km) on one 75.6 Wh pack; Ultra doubles that to 31 miles (50 km) with two packs. The company also claims up to 40% less leg effort and 66 lb of offload, plus IP54 splash resistance and noise at or under 35 dB.
If IFA were only a hip launch, those numbers would be a late entry into a discount fight. The stand instead spends its airtime on a knee that is not for sale and on a software door that opens in November. That is the tell. Hypershell’s communications manager, Toby Knisely, has put that firm’s sales at 20,000 units, a figure no Ascentiz filing matches in public. A modular story is how a smaller hip maker tries to stop competing on the same belt.
What Sits on the Exo-Belt
The physical product is a waist computer with struts, not a suit. The Exo-Belt holds the battery, the controller and the main code. Joint modules lock on by hand in seconds, and BodyOS is supposed to treat H, K or H+K as one system rather than two gadgets on one waist. Fit is listed for heights from 155 to 200 cm and waists from 65 to 145 cm. A 14-day return and a 1-year warranty sit on the store. Single-leg use is not supported, and an earlier campaign note said you still cannot mix H on one leg with K on the other.
THE FOUR LAYERS ON THE BELT
- Exo-Belt: Shared waist unit with the battery, controller and control code for every module.
- AZ-Lock: MOLLE-style quick-release so H, K or both can be swapped by hand in seconds.
- CAN-FD: Vehicle-style bus that moves power and messages between the belt and each joint.
- BodyOS: Software that times hip and knee motors together and, later, third-party add-ons.
H+K is the configuration that makes the software claim testable, because two motors have to share a gait. Until K has a ship date, most paying customers are buying a hip belt that talks about a platform. Ultra’s extra pitch is already the SDK and a faster dual-core chip, which is another way of saying the dearer SKU is for people who want to write code onto a pair of legs.
The Full Stack Costs Almost 4,000 Euros
Modularity is priced as an upsell. The knee list is higher than the hip list at every tier, so the piece you cannot buy yet is the expensive one. Bundles then claw some of that back, and they claw more back at the top.
WHAT THE COMBOS SHAVE
- Pro pair: H Pro plus K Pro is €3,998 bought apart, €399 more than the €3,599 Pro Combo.
- Ultra pair: H Ultra plus K Ultra is €5,298 bought apart, €1,299 more than the €3,999 Ultra Combo.
- The gap: Ultra’s bundle cut is more than three times Pro’s, which is how a full-leg stack is held just under €4,000.
A shopper who believes the knee is coming still has to park a hip purchase now and wait. A shopper who wants both joints on day one is being steered into a combo that does not yet have a delivery week. Skip’s MO/GO knee system, built with Arc’teryx, has been taking deposits around US$4,999 with 2027 shipping, so Ascentiz is not the only firm asking for money before a knee arrives. It is the one doing it on a consumer-electronics floor with a software kit on the table.
ISO 13482 Was Written for Closed Machines
Once BodyOS lets outsiders attach motors to a human joint, the product stops looking like a finished gadget and starts looking like a personal-care robot with extra authors. ISO 13482:2014 sets safety requirements for personal care robots, including physical assistant robots that augment a user’s strength, and it carves medical devices out of that net. It also says it does not apply to robots travelling faster than 20 km/h (12.4 mph).
Ascentiz lists assisted speed up to 15.5 mph on the Pro and 17.4 mph on the Ultra, which convert to about 24.9 km/h and 28.0 km/h. Both sit above that 20 km/h line. The company sells the H Series as outdoor and everyday kit, not as a clinic device, and it tells buyers they need independent walking. That keeps it in the consumer aisle. It also leaves a gap: a November SDK can put new control code on a machine whose own speed claims already sit outside the best-known non-medical robot safety book.
Third-party modules make that gap wider. A closed hip belt is one maker’s risk file. An open rail is a pile of accessories, some of them motorized, running on a waist battery a hiker can buy this week. CSA testing is cited on the Ascentiz homepage as independent evaluation, but that is the company’s own hardware, not a rule for whoever 3D-prints the next lock in December.
2,301 Backers Bought a Software Promise
The IFA stand sits on a crowdfunding base. Ascentiz raised HK$20,626,726 from 2,301 Kickstarter backers between September 25 and November 9, 2025, against a HK$388,788 goal, about 53 times the ask. The campaign already sold BodyOS as an open stack with C, C++, Python and Matlab access, a planned GitHub under an MIT license, and a warning that mixed H and K on opposite legs would wait. CES 2026 was the first big public try-on. The H Series went on open sale on August 6. Berlin is the European storefront for the same belt.

Until that November drop, the only extra hardware the belt has proven in public is the kind you clip on like camp gear. The knee still needs a date if modularity is going to mean two joints, not one belt and a brochure. Mid-November is when outside code is supposed to arrive. The ship week for K is the date the rest of the stand is still waiting on.
