The Pixel 11 Camera Upgrade Stops at One Sensor
Pixel 11 camera specs add a larger 1/1.56-inch main sensor, while the ultrawide and 5x telephoto stay on Pixel 10 hardware.
Google priced the Pixel 11 camera story on a 48-megapixel main sensor that is 56% more sensitive to light than Pixel 10. The ultrawide and 5x telephoto did not change. Pre-orders opened August 12, 2026, and the phone went on sale August 20 at $899 for 256GB.
That larger 1/1.56-inch chip walks back last year’s shrink on the base Pixel. It still sits below the 1/1.31-inch main camera Pixel 9 used, and well below the 1/1.3-inch sensor Google kept for Pixel 11 Pro.
The Main Sensor Grew, the Other Two Did Not
Product managers Spencer Boone and Akash Rathi put the whole hardware pitch on one module. Google’s August 12 post says the new 48-megapixel sensor delivers 56% more light than Pixel 10 in hard low light, and that Tensor G6 now drives 30x Super Zoom on the existing 5x lens.
Starting with Pixel 11, you’ll find a new, larger, 48-megapixel main sensor that delivers 56% more light sensitivity for some truly stunning photos and videos, even in challenging low-light environments.

The rest of the rear trio is last year’s kit with a new image pipeline. Google’s own sheet lists a 13-megapixel ultrawide on a 1/3.1-inch sensor and a 10.8-megapixel telephoto on a 1/3.2-inch sensor, the same formats Pixel 10 shipped. The selfie camera stays a 10.5-megapixel Dual PD unit with an f/2.2 aperture and a 95-degree view.
Hands-on testers of the retail phone keep reaching for that 5x more than the ultrawide. At the long end of Super Zoom, the processing still rebuilds detail instead of resolving it, which is what you get when the telephoto itself did not grow.
Last Year’s Shrink Made This Upgrade Inevitable
Pixel 10 was the decision Pixel 11 is paying for. Google added a 5x telephoto to the base phone in 2025 and cut the other two rear cameras to make room. The main sensor fell from Pixel 9’s 50-megapixel 1/1.31-inch chip to a 48-megapixel 1/2.0-inch part, a format that also sat in Pixel 9a. The ultrawide dropped from a 48-megapixel 1/2.55-inch module to the 13-megapixel 1/3.1-inch unit that is still on Pixel 11.
THE SENSOR SIZES GOOGLE HAS BEEN CHASING
- 2024: Pixel 9 ships a 50MP 1/1.31-inch main camera and a 48MP ultrawide, with no telephoto on the base model.
- August 2025: Pixel 10 adds a 10.8MP 5x telephoto and shrinks the main camera to 1/2.0-inch and the ultrawide to 13MP.
- August 12, 2026: Pixel 11 is unveiled with a 48MP 1/1.56-inch main camera; the ultrawide and 5x telephoto stay on Pixel 10 hardware.
- August 20, 2026: Pixel 11 goes on sale at $899 for 256GB and $1,019 for 512GB, both with 12GB of RAM.
A 1/1.56-inch sensor is a real step up from 1/2.0-inch, and Google’s 56% light claim is the number it wants on the box. It is still a smaller format than the 1/1.31-inch class Pixel 9 already had, so the “flagship return” is a partial restoration, not a new ceiling.
What the Pixel 11 Camera Specs Include
The Pixel 11 camera is a triple rear array: a 48MP f/1.7 main camera with Quad PD autofocus and OIS on a 1/1.56-inch sensor, a 13MP f/2.2 ultrawide with a 120-degree view, and a 10.8MP f/3.1 5x telephoto with Dual PD autofocus and OIS. Super Zoom goes to 30x. Google also lists a spectral and flicker sensor plus multi-zone laser autofocus.
PIXEL 10, PIXEL 11, AND PIXEL 11 PRO REAR CAMERAS
| Module | Pixel 10 | Pixel 11 | Pixel 11 Pro |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main | 48MP, 1/2.0-inch, f/1.7 | 48MP, 1/1.56-inch, f/1.7 | 50MP, 1/1.3-inch, f/1.68 |
| Ultrawide | 13MP, 1/3.1-inch, f/2.2 | 13MP, 1/3.1-inch, f/2.2 | 48MP, 1/2.51-inch, f/1.7 |
| Telephoto | 10.8MP, 1/3.2-inch, f/3.1, 5x | 10.8MP, 1/3.2-inch, f/3.1, 5x | 48MP, 1/1.95-inch, f/2.8, 5x |
| Max still zoom | 20x Super Res Zoom | 30x Super Zoom | 120x Pro Zoom |
The Pixel 11 triple camera spec sheet is more precise than the launch slogans. The wide camera is 48MP Quad PD at f/1.70 with an 85-degree view. The telephoto is 10.8MP Dual PD at f/3.1 with a 23-degree view and 5x optical zoom. Optical-quality steps are listed at 0.6x, 1x, 2x, 5x, and 10x, which means 2x is a crop from the main camera, not a second telephoto.
Google does not list phase-detect autofocus on the 13MP ultrawide, unlike the Quad PD main and Dual PD telephoto. Macro Focus is assigned to the wide camera, not to a dedicated close-up lens. OIS and electronic stabilization run together on the wide and telephoto modules, which is the hybrid setup for night stills and handheld video.
The front camera is the same 10.5MP Dual PD selfie module Pixel 10 used, with autofocus, f/2.2, and a 95-degree ultrawide view. There is no 42MP front camera on the base phone, and no high-res stills mode that dumps the full 48MP file the way Pro models can.
Pixel 11 Pro Still Holds the Flagship Sensors
If the question is which Pixel 11 actually has flagship camera hardware, the answer is the Pro. The Pixel 11 Pro camera spec sheet lists a 50MP Octa PD wide camera on a 1/1.3-inch sensor at f/1.68, a 48MP ultrawide on a 1/2.51-inch sensor at f/1.7 with a 123-degree view, and a redesigned 48MP telephoto on a 1/1.95-inch sensor at f/2.8.
Google says that new telephoto gathers 30% more light than the 1/2.51-inch unit on Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 9, and Pixel 8. Portrait Mode now runs at 5x on that lens. Pro Zoom is rated to 120x. The front camera is 42MP Dual PD with a 103-degree view.
The main sensor on Pro is still in the 1/1.3-inch class Pixel 10 Pro already used. Google calls it a brand-new sensor and “Pixel’s best camera yet,” but the published format did not grow. The telephoto is the hardware change you can measure without a press release.
That split is the product plan. Pixel 11 gets the light-gathering bump people noticed was missing in 2025. Pixel 11 Pro keeps the large main chip, the 48MP ultrawide, and a bigger 5x sensor, then charges $1,099 for 256GB, a $200 step over the base 256GB phone.
Tensor G6 Is Covering for Two Carryover Lenses
Google is not pretending the ultrawide and telephoto are new glass. The pitch is Tensor G6’s image signal processor, plus updated models for zoom and night shots. The chip has 50% more TPU compute than Tensor G5 and, Google says, runs on-device AI tasks up to 3.5 times faster while using up to 3.5 times less energy.
On the announcement post, Night Sight is said to capture up to 4.5 times faster with the same quality, tied to that ISP and to redesigned software. Camera Looks lets you set a default grade in the viewfinder, including looks that use fewer frames so the file appears less processed. Magic Capture is the hands-off mode: you start it, point the phone, and it tries to keep HDR+ stills and clips from the moments it thinks matter.
WHAT THE BASE PIXEL 11 CAMERA ADDS IN SOFTWARE
- 30x Super Zoom: The 5x lens now stretches to 30x with G6 processing; Google still lists optical-quality results at 0.6x, 1x, 2x, 5x, and 10x.
- Spectral and flicker sensor: A dedicated chip reads the scene’s lighting so indoor color stays even and artificial lights do not band.
- Camera Looks: Preset grades, including milder processing, can be set as the default before you press the shutter.
- Magic Capture: One tap starts a capture session that saves stills and video, then crops and unblurs a set to share.
A small 5x sensor plus aggressive zoom is a known Pixel habit, and the base Pixel 11 does not break it. Putting that 1/3.2-inch telephoto on the phone is also why the ultrawide stayed a 13MP 1/3.1-inch part and the selfie stayed 10.5MP. You get true 5x optical shots. You do not get the 48MP ultrawide or the 42MP front camera that sit one model up.
$899 Buys a Bigger Main Camera and 5x Zoom
Pixel 11 starts at $899 for 256GB and $1,019 for 512GB. Both configs use 12GB of RAM. There is no 128GB SKU this year, and there is no 16GB or 1TB option on the standard model. It ships with Android 17 and seven years of OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates.
The phone is a 6.3-inch Actua display at 1080 x 2424, 60-120Hz, with peak brightness up to 3000 nits. The camera bar is 40% thinner than earlier base Pixels, and Google says a Made by Google case makes the back sit almost flat. Colors are Frost, Pistachio, Hibiscus, and Obsidian. Typical battery capacity is 4985mAh, with a claim of 55% in about 30 minutes from a 30W USB-C charger sold separately.
For stills in mixed light, the 1/1.56-inch main camera is the reason to move off Pixel 10. For zoom, you already had 5x optical last year; you are buying faster Super Zoom and a quicker night pipeline, not a new telephoto. For ultrawide and selfies, the hardware is the 2025 kit.
The $200 step to Pixel 11 Pro is where the 50MP 1/1.3-inch main camera, the 48MP ultrawide, and the 48MP 1/1.95-inch 5x telephoto actually live. Pixel 11 is the correction for last year’s shrink. It is not the full stack Google still reserves for the Pro badge.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Pixel 11 ultrawide camera have autofocus?
Google’s spec sheet does not list phase-detect autofocus on the 13MP ultrawide; it only names Quad PD on the 48MP wide camera and Dual PD on the 10.8MP telephoto, so close-up work is meant to run through Macro Focus on the main lens.
What video can the Pixel 11 record?
The rear cameras record 4K at 24, 30, or 60fps with 10-bit HDR, 1080p slow motion up to 240fps, and digital video zoom up to 20x, which is a shorter ceiling than the 30x still Super Zoom.
How does Pixel 11 Pro camera hardware differ from Pixel 11?
Pixel 11 Pro adds a 50MP 1/1.3-inch main camera, a 48MP ultrawide, a 48MP 1/1.95-inch 5x telephoto, a 42MP selfie camera, 120x Pro Zoom, and 8K video via Video Boost, plus 16GB of RAM on the 512GB and 1TB models.
Did Google keep a 128GB Pixel 11?
No. Every Pixel 11 starts at 256GB with UFS 4.x storage, the 512GB model uses Zoned UFS, and the 128GB tier that sat under Pixel 10 is gone.
