The Hell’s Kitchen reunion fans demanded is finally happening. Marvel Studios has unveiled the first official look at Krysten Ritter’s return as Jessica Jones in the upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again. This confirms the hard drinking private investigator will join forces with Matt Murdock to dismantle Mayor Wilson Fisk’s tyrannical reign over New York City.
Images released by Entertainment Weekly confirm that the gritty, street-level chemistry established in The Defenders is back. Matt Murdock is no longer fighting alone in a city that has turned against him, and he has recruited the one person who cares as little about rules as he does.
The Return of the Dynamic Duo
Charlie Cox, who plays the titular hero, admitted that the production team knew exactly what fans wanted. The actor noted that the friction between the two characters was the highlight of their previous interactions on Netflix. Marvel is now leaning heavily into that “blunt-force dynamic” for the new season.
“Just by the nature of who Jessica is and who Matt is, they both give as much as they get,” Cox explained in the release.
He added that he and Ritter had been waiting years for an opportunity to put these characters back on screen together. They aim to have more fun with the relationship this time around.
Key elements of their return include:
- Shared Screen Time: Jessica Jones is not just a cameo; she plays a major role comparable to The Punisher in the first season.
- Classic Banter: The writers have prioritized the “tongue in cheek” insults the duo is famous for.
- Action Focus: Both characters will physically engage in the fight against the Mayor’s anti-vigilante task forces.
Brad Winderbaum, the head of Marvel Television, kept specific plot details quiet. However, he confirmed that Jessica’s presence serves a massive narrative purpose. She enters the story as a “wise-ass strongwoman sleuth” ready to crack skulls just as Matt goes into full resistance mode.

Mayor Fisk and the French Revolution
The stakes in Season 2 are significantly higher than previous street-level entanglements. Following the Season 1 finale, Wilson Fisk has successfully seized control of New York City. The Kingpin is now the Mayor.
Showrunner Dario Scardapane used the French Revolution as his primary inspiration for the season’s atmosphere. This historical reference point suggests a city on the brink of total collapse and violent upheaval.
“It feels like one misstep and loved ones disappear,” Cox described the new tone. “You are taken, there is no way out. It is a very claustrophobic world.”
Matt Murdock has been forced to evolve because of this pressure. He is reportedly in “Nick Fury mode” throughout the new episodes. He is building a secret resistance network to topple Fisk’s legal empire from the shadows. The images suggest a darker, more desperate Daredevil who has outlawed vigilantism turning him into public enemy number one.
Karen Page Steps Into the Shadows
The new season also promises a significant evolution for Deborah Ann Woll’s character, Karen Page. While she started the series as a secretary and grew into a journalist, Season 2 sees her entering the espionage world.
Cox expressed genuine excitement for where Karen’s story is heading. He mentioned that fans will finally see the “badass” side of Karen that Matt always knew existed beneath the surface.
“Her role is the best it’s ever been. We get to see a side of Karen Page which I think Charlie and also Matt Murdock have always known is beneath that surface.” — Charlie Cox
This character growth comes with a heavy emotional cost. Elden Henson returns as Foggy Nelson, but the character remains dead. His memory haunts the narrative, serving as a ghost in the room that motivates Matt’s crusade against Fisk. This loss hangs over the resistance, adding a layer of personal paranoia to the political dread.
Expanding the Street Level Universe
Marvel is using this season to weave a larger tapestry for its street-level heroes. The studio confirmed that the upcoming Punisher TV special is directly connected to the events of Born Again Season 2.
Jon Bernthal is developing that standalone story with director Reinaldo Marcus Green. It takes place in the same timeline and version of New York City. This confirms that the disparate corners of the MCU street universe are finally merging into one cohesive story.
New power players joining the cast include:
- Matthew Lillard: Playing Mr. Charles, a new figure in Fisk’s orbit.
- Lili Taylor: Taking on the role of New York governor Marge McCaffrey.
Winderbaum described Seasons 1 and 2 as two halves of a single giant story. The introduction of these veteran actors suggests that Fisk’s corruption has reached the highest levels of state government.
Marvel fans can see how this resistance plays out very soon. Daredevil: Born Again returns to Disney+ this coming March. The addition of Jessica Jones signals that the gloves are officially off for the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen.
