The galaxy far, far away is getting a little bigger and a lot grittier. Lucasfilm and Marvel Comics have officially announced a new series of one-shot comics that will explore the lives of the heroes from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This move comes directly after the massive critical success of the Andor television series on Disney Plus. Fans have been asking for more grounded stories about the Rebellion and Marvel is finally delivering.

These five upcoming issues promise to dive deep into the motivations and histories of the squad that eventually stole the Death Star plans. Each story focuses on a specific character and fills in the gaps before they met on Yavin 4. It is time to see what made these rebels into the heroes they became.

Backstories of The Rebellion’s Finest

The series kicks off with a focus on the characters who started it all. The first issue puts the spotlight on Cassian Andor. This story will take readers back to the Ring of Kafrene. This is the deep-space trading outpost where fans first met Cassian in the 2016 film.

Writer Benjamin Percy and artist Luke Ross are teaming up to deliver a high-stakes espionage thriller.

In this issue, Cassian must navigate a dangerous maze of bounty hunters and stormtroopers. He is on a mission to infiltrate a secret sector of the outpost. The clock is ticking and he has to escape before the Empire locks down the sector. It hits comic shops on May 6, 2026.

Following Cassian is a story about Jyn Erso. This issue takes place on the toxic labor fields of Wobani. Fans will remember this as the planet where the Rebel Alliance rescued Jyn from an Imperial transport vehicle.

Jyn is not alone in this adventure. She teams up with a talented slicer named Liana Hallik. Together they must plan a daring escape right under the noses of their captors. Writer Ethan Sacks and artist Ramon Rosanas are handling the creative duties for this emotional chapter. You can grab this issue on June 3, 2026.

Legends of Jedha and The Partisans

The expansion of the Rogue One lore continues with a focus on the spiritual and radical side of the fight. Saw Gerrera returns in a gritty tale set shortly after the Clone Wars. He is known for his extreme methods and this story leans into that reputation.

Saw leads his Partisans on a risky mission deep inside Imperial territory. Their goal is to steal vital intelligence that could expose a weakness in the Imperial military machine. Writer Marc Bernardin joins forces with artist Gabriel Guzman to showcase the high cost of war. This intense chapter arrives in July 2026.

The series then shifts focus to the Guardians of the Whills.

Chirrut Îmwe and Baze Malbus star in the fourth one-shot. The duo attempts to sabotage an Imperial kyber mine. This story tests their faith and their friendship as they face obstacles they never prepared for. Writer Stephanie Phillips and artist Kieran McKowen bring the heart and soul of the Holy City to life in August 2026.

Here is the release schedule for the upcoming series:

  • May 6, 2026: Cassian Andor (By Benjamin Percy & Luke Ross)
  • June 3, 2026: Jyn Erso (By Ethan Sacks & Ramon Rosanas)
  • July 2026: Saw Gerrera (By Marc Bernardin & Gabriel Guzman)
  • August 2026: Chirrut & Baze (By Stephanie Phillips & Kieran McKowen)
  • September 2026: Darth Vader (By Chris Condon & Luke Ross)

Vader Hunts for Kyber in Finale

No Rogue One celebration would be complete without the Sith Lord himself. The final comic in this collection features Darth Vader on a ruthless mission. He travels to the planet Harreld to secure a shipment of kyber crystals.

Emperor Palpatine has ordered Vader to crush any resistance that stands in the way of the Death Star project. Writer Chris Condon pens this dark tale while artist Luke Ross returns to handle the visuals. The issue promises to show Vader at the height of his terrifying power.

“The Dark Lord’s presence in this series adds a necessary layer of dread that defined the original film.”

This issue serves as the conclusion to the one-shot event. It connects the struggles of the rebels directly to the overwhelming threat they face. Readers can expect this final chapter in September 2026.

Top Talent Behind The Panels

Marvel has assembled a team of veteran creators for this project. Writers like Benjamin Percy and Ethan Sacks have years of experience writing action-heavy comics for Marvel. Their involvement suggests that these stories will be fast-paced and character-driven.

The artwork also aims to impress. Renowned illustrator David Marquez is providing the main cover art for all five issues. Marquez is famous for his clean lines and dynamic character work on titles like Defenders and Civil War II.

Variant covers will be available for collectors as well. Legends like Walt Simonson and Josemaria Casanovas are contributing alternate art. This mix of modern and classic styles pays tribute to the visual history of the Star Wars galaxy. This collaboration between Lucasfilm and Marvel continues to be a gold standard for franchise storytelling.

This new comic line is a perfect treat for fans who want to stay in the world of Rogue One. It bridges the gap between the movies and the new TV shows. The stories promise to add depth to the characters we love and the villains we fear. Be sure to visit your local comic shop to pre-order these issues before they sell out.
