The XRPL AI Hub went live on Wednesday with Ripple-backed t54.ai unveiling a new discovery portal for autonomous-agent builders, the same day the XRP Ledger Foundation confirmed the network had crossed 1,000,000 agentic payments processed through the x402 protocol.

The twin announcements land against a backdrop t54.ai and the foundation have been laying for months. That backdrop includes a developer starter kit for AI agents, a validator upgrade nearing activation, and a positioning push for the chain as a settlement rail for software that transacts without a human in the loop.

A Million Agentic Payments on x402

The XRP Ledger Foundation posted the milestone in a single message on Wednesday: “We just surpassed 1,000,000 agentic payments via x402 on the $XRP Ledger. Time to double down.” The foundation’s full 1 million payments post linked directly to the new XRPL AI Hub and called it “a comprehensive new ecosystem platform for builders, users, and enthusiasts.”

The foundation framed the number as a starting point. The post tied the milestone directly to the new hub and closed: “Welcome to the agentic economy on the XRP Ledger.” That economy is now sized in the millions, though the foundation has not yet broken out how many of those payments settled in XRP, Ripple USD, or another issued token.

Three Rooms Inside the New Hub

t54.ai structured the XRPL AI Hub around three distinct sections, each aimed at a different user. The first surfaces live activity, the next hands developers tools, and the third gives builders a directory of what already exists on the chain. t54.ai’s XRPL AI Hub launch announcement describes each of the three rooms in detail.

  • Index: a live tracker of x402 payment activity on the XRP Ledger, including transactions, volumes, and participating agents.
  • Docs, SDKs, repos: developer resources that include the XRPL AI Starter Kit, the XRPL Docs MCP Server, the XRPL Agent Wallet Skill, and the XRPL Payment Skill for Claude.
  • Directory: a listing of AI agents, merchants, services, and projects already operating on XRPL, intended to keep builders from rebuilding what exists.

The launch partner headlining the directory is Virtuals Protocol, which t54.ai called the hub’s “ecosystem launch partner” in its launch post. Virtuals runs a tokenized network of autonomous AI agents, and the pairing is the first concrete third-party anchor for the hub on launch day.

What the Starter Kit Already Built

The XRPL AI Hub does not stand alone. Ripple rolled out the XRP Ledger AI Starter Kit several weeks earlier, an SDK bundle that lets AI agents send and receive payments using XRP or Ripple USD over x402.

The kit, as detailed in the XRPL AI Starter Kit’s launch notes, ships with: query XRPL docs through an MCP Server, plug the XRPL Agent Wallet Skill and XRPL Payment Skill into Claude, walk through a hands-on tutorial that confirms a payment in under thirty minutes, and pay or get paid through x402 for API calls, AI inference, and other digital services. The kit launched XRPL as a supported chain in the x402 protocol, a contribution t54.ai credited as the partner that made the integration live.

Why XRPL Bets on the Agent Loop

The pitch for agent payments rests on a small set of properties XRPL has advertised since 2012. Each one is positioned as a reason an autonomous agent would prefer the chain: deterministic finality in three to five seconds, predictable transaction costs measured in fractions of a cent, a native multi-currency ledger with a built-in decentralized exchange, and no smart-contract bytecode for funds movement.

Ripple’s starter-kit page leans on those properties directly, calling settlement speed and predictable costs “essential” for any agent doing budget accounting and noting that core payment logic lives at the protocol layer rather than in user-deployed contracts. The XRPL developer docs add a fifth claim tailored to agents: a transaction either confirms with “tesSUCCESS” or expires cleanly, so an agent never sits in a polling loop waiting to learn whether its payment landed.

For agent workflows that need dollar-denominated value, RLUSD, Ripple’s enterprise-grade stablecoin native to the XRP Ledger, ships with the same primitives as XRP and trades on the XRPL’s built-in DEX. Existing escrow, multi-sign, and deposit-authorization features keep guardrails in place on the chain today, and Smart Escrows and Confidential Transfers in the XRPL upgrade pipeline extend those rails further.

The x402 Rail the Milestone Runs On

None of this happens without x402, the open payment protocol that lets machines transact directly over HTTP. Coinbase authored the x402 flow, and Cloudflare partnered with Coinbase to form the x402 Foundation, an effort documented in the original launch of the x402 Foundation in September 2025 as a way to standardize machine-to-machine payments.

x402 revives the long-dormant HTTP 402 Payment Required status code. When a server returns that response, the body carries machine-readable payment instructions, the client signs, and a facilitator settles the transaction. XRPL’s agent-payment count runs through this protocol, with t54.ai operating an x402 facilitator on the chain and XRPL now listed as a supported rail.

Validator Vet Calls the Match

One XRPL validator publicly endorsed the fit on Wednesday. Vet, who posts on social as Vet_X0, said the milestone did not surprise him.

Low cost infra, predictable fees, a native asset XRP that’s listed everywhere and is liquid. and of course a native Decentralized Exchange that lets you swap between assets 24/7 with no censorship.

crypto.news attributed the comments to Vet, who reshared them on social. The endorsement fits the chain’s broader institutional pitch, but it comes from one validator among a much larger set. XRPL runs a peer-to-peer consensus rather than a proof-of-stake validator auction, which means Vet’s view carries network-stewardship weight rather than delegated voting power.

The Network Hasn’t Fully Voted Yet

The same week the hub launched, the chain’s governance was working its way through a separate software upgrade. The xrpld v3.2.0 release, which renames the core server from rippled to xrpld and ships bug fixes plus developer improvements, had crossed the halfway mark with trusted validators.

Drawing on XRP Ledger Explorer data cited in a July 7 report, the count sits at 84 trusted validators, or 55.63% of the validator set, on the new build, with 353 network nodes, or 42.12% of all nodes, on v3.2.0. Version 3.1.3 remains on 58 trusted validators and 440 nodes. The chain’s amendment rule requires approval from more than 80% of trusted validators for two consecutive weeks before any change goes live, a bar the upgrade still has not cleared.

The two tracks now running in parallel, agent payment adoption and a stalled server upgrade, will likely shape the next quarter of XRPL coverage more than the hub’s launch graphic did. A 1 million payment milestone proves demand for the rail. An amendment stuck below the activation threshold keeps the new server sitting on standby until the validator set catches up.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the XRPL AI Hub?

The XRPL AI Hub is a directory and developer portal launched on July 8, 2026 by Ripple-backed t54.ai. It splits into three sections: an index of live x402 payment activity on the XRP Ledger, a docs and SDK section that includes the XRP Ledger AI Starter Kit, and a directory of AI agents, merchants, and services already building on the chain. Virtuals Protocol is the hub’s named ecosystem launch partner.

How many agentic payments has the XRP Ledger processed?

The XRP Ledger Foundation announced on July 8, 2026 that the network had processed more than 1,000,000 agentic payments via the x402 protocol. The foundation did not break down how many of those payments settled in XRP, RLUSD, or another issued token.

What is x402 and who built it?

x402 is an open payment protocol that revives the unused HTTP 402 status code so machines can pay each other over the web without subscriptions or API keys. Coinbase authored the protocol, and Cloudflare teamed up with Coinbase to launch the x402 Foundation in September 2025.

How does XRP Ledger price transactions for AI agents?

XRPL charges a small, predictable fee per transaction, typically a fraction of a cent, set by the protocol rather than by a gas auction. Each transaction completes in three to five seconds and either returns tesSUCCESS or expires, which removes the polling loops that complicate agent-side payment code.
