Genesis Bets the GV90 Neolun on Stone Panels and Costly Lights
Genesis counts on German stone, 500-plus door bearings and its most expensive headlights to justify flagship pricing on the 657-hp GV90 Neolun electric SUV.
Genesis unveiled its 657-horsepower all-electric GV90 Neolun flagship SUV on August 19, 2026, with an estimated 310-mile range and coach doors that open independently. The brand is counting on German stone panels, Italian wood, more than 500 ball bearings in those doors and headlights it calls the most expensive lighting element ever created to justify a premium price still unannounced for early 2027 arrivals.
The details go far beyond the usual leather-and-screens package. They form the core of a deliberate bet that a young Korean luxury brand can charge Escalade IQ and Range Rover money through obsessive execution.
Coach Doors That Slide Then Swing
The GV90 Neolun’s signature is the Neolun Arch Gate. Rear-hinged coach doors meet a hidden B-pillar layout so the front and rear openings create one wide portal. Genesis engineered a dual-motion hinge that first slides each rear door outward a short distance, then rotates it open. The rear doors can operate fully independent of the fronts.
- High-strength dual steel beams replace the conventional B-pillar for rigidity.
- A concealed roll-cage structure uses a frame 1.5 times thicker than conventional vehicles plus high-strength steel tubes and structural foam.
- Over 500 ball bearings support the coach-door mechanism, according to media briefings at the launch event.
- Crash performance is claimed equivalent to vehicles with traditional B-pillars.
The same hardware appears on the ultra-exclusive Neolun First Edition. Earlier coverage of the earlier coach-door reveal coverage already flagged the production intent; the production car keeps the concept’s drama while adding the independent motion that solves the classic coach-door frustration of front doors blocking rear access.
Materials That Raise the Cost Floor
Body construction jumps to 75 percent aluminum panels, up from 35 percent on prior Genesis models. The underbody uses cast and extruded aluminum for rigidity and weight control. Acoustic glass 5.0 mm thick covers the windows and windshield. At the launch event a room full of journalists talking outside became nearly inaudible once the doors closed.
| Material or Feature | Detail | Source Note |
|---|---|---|
| Body panels | 75% aluminum | Highest share yet for Genesis |
| Interior stone | Genuine black stone slate from Germany, machined thin | Door panels and garnishes |
| Wood options | Ash and olive woods; Italian-sourced panels noted | Door coverings and trim |
| Acoustic glass | 5.0 mm thickness | Windshield and all windows |
| Upholstery | Leather, checkered fabrics, wool cashmere options | Multiple color pairings |
Cooled cupholders sit in the cabin. Radiant heating under genuine wood veneer floors is available on Neolun configurations, drawing on Korean ondol underfloor heating ideas. The stone and wood choices are not marketing fluff. They are physical, expensive-to-tool parts that show up every time a door opens.
Cabin Pieces That Move on Their Own
The center OLED display measures 23.6 inches and sits low for an open view of the road. In Park it rises 90 mm and expands to roughly 70 percent more visible screen area, turning into a near-television shape. At the media event a Genesis representative streamed a Spider-Verse film on it. Fast charging from 10 to 80 percent takes about 22 minutes on a 350 kW charger, so movie sessions will often be short.
Bang & Olufsen supplies a 25-speaker Premier 3D system with Dolby Atmos. Dashboard tweeter covers rotate open like stage curtains on start-up. The Crystal Sphere Controller on the center console rotates into its working position. A large volume knob can digitally transform into a tiny analog-style clock when idle. The Motion Column Shifter rests at the 12 o’clock position and swings to 2 o’clock once the driver presses the brake (there is no traditional start button).
Neolun models add motorized front seats that swivel a full 180 degrees while parked, creating a face-to-face lounge. Four-zone climate, massage seats, Ambient Glow lighting and a Smart Vision Roof with adjustable opacity zones round out the package. These are the moving theater pieces Genesis expects owners to demonstrate to passengers.
Headlights Genesis Almost Abandoned
Executives called the GV90 the brand’s most ambitious project, even after Le Mans racing efforts. The Wing Face Micro Lens Array headlights nearly forced a design change mid-cycle. Representatives described them as “the most expensive lighting element ever created.” Laser engraving integrates the ultra-wide array flush with the bodywork. The lights wrap around the front bumper nearly to the wheel arches, with a second strip continuing visual continuity behind the arch. Up close each element shows jewel-like depth and texture.
Taillights stretch across the rear with the same seamless integration. The rear Genesis logo sits flush. Paint choices run to 16 colors at launch: 13 glossy including Baena Green, Seychelles Beige, Sonoran Navy, Jaipur Rose and Cardiff Green, plus three matte finishes (Matterhorn White, Monashee Silver, Makalu Gray). Baena Green shifts tone with viewing angle and light. The dual-layered G-matrix lower grille and raised diamond-pattern front badge add physical depth most buyers will never consciously notice, yet they are there.
Power, Range and the Open Price Question
The dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivers a combined 657 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Front motor output is listed at 322 hp, rear at 335 hp. The official 123.5 kWh battery and 657 hp claims make this the largest pack and most powerful EV yet from the Hyundai Motor Group. Genesis internal estimates put seven-seat range at approximately 310 miles. Dual electronic limited-slip differentials and multi-chamber air suspension are standard. Active rear-wheel steering turns the rear wheels up to five degrees. A world-first roof airbag joins an 11-airbag total of 12, covering the panoramic glass in a rollover.
| Vehicle | Power | Battery / Est. Range | Charge 10-80% | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Genesis GV90 / Neolun | 657 hp | 123.5 kWh / ~310 mi | ~22 min @ 350 kW | Internal estimate; EPA pending |
| Cadillac Escalade IQ | ~680+ hp | Larger pack / up to ~450 mi claimed | Varies | Key U.S. full-size rival |
| Lucid Gravity | High dual/tri-motor | Large / strong claimed range | Fast | Premium EV three-row |
| Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV | ~649 hp | ~305 mi class | Fast | Ultra-luxe benchmark |
Dimensions run 208.1 inches long, 79.9 inches wide, 71.5-71.9 inches tall on a 127.8-inch wheelbase. Curb weight sits near 6,680 lb. Standard GV90 models use conventional doors and can seat up to seven. Neolun versions emphasize four-seat Executive Suite layouts with the Arch Gate. Pricing remains unannounced. Analyst and media estimates cluster from roughly $100,000 for base configurations into the $150,000-$175,000 range for loaded Neolun and First Edition models, with some markets discussing higher figures. Genesis invites shoppers to design your own GV90 configuration online ahead of early 2027 arrivals.
What the Brand Is Risking
Genesis reached one million global sales faster than any prior luxury brand, according to Hyundai Motor Company president and CEO José Muñoz. The GV90 is positioned as the culmination of that climb. Executive Chair Euisun Chung framed it as more than a new model: a vision where technology improves daily experience rather than existing for its own sake. The eMP platform is exclusive to Genesis flagships. Dual E-LSD, the new power control system that removes the start button, and the world-first roof airbag and dual E-LSD details are all firsts for the wider group.
Early online reaction already treats the GV90 as a natural step-up from GV80 ownership. Price speculation on platforms places the standard model near $110,000 and Neolun coach-door versions near $150,000-$160,000 before options. That is the exact territory where brand prestige usually matters as much as hardware. Genesis is wagering that stone you can touch, bearings you never see, and lights that almost got canceled will carry the weight of that jump.
Deliveries are slated for the first half of 2027 through the brand’s growing standalone dealer network. Official EPA range figures, final U.S. pricing and real-world coach-door durability data will arrive later. Until then the GV90 Neolun stands as a long list of expensive, specific choices made in public.
