TECNO’s 0mm Bezelless Phone Still Needs a Rim

TECNO will park a 0mm bezelless concept phone on tables 501 and 503 at IFA ShowStoppers in Berlin on September 3. Marques Brownlee already used the handset on camera. The metal frame sits a hair above the glass, which is how the last black border vanishes.

The unit is still a prototype. The hardware that gets a sale date is a Tonino Lamborghini POVA on September 4, plus three MEGABOOK laptops and a water-cooled mini PC on the same Berlin table.

The 0mm Phone Already Left the Box

TECNO posted the Next-Gen Bezelless Concept Phone on July 31 and compared it with Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro in stills. Brownlee’s video went up on August 24, more than a week before the press night. IFA is the trade-show encore, not the first look.

He called it “a big premium smartphone with a 6.7 in display and zero bezels.” The panel is flat, runs at 144Hz, and sits in a silver chassis that he found remarkably light. A punch-hole still cuts the top of the glass for the front camera. The back is a holographic, lenticular panel that shifts like butterfly wings when the light moves.

The rest of the prototype is closer to a flagship than a mock-up. Brownlee’s unit carried triple rear cameras and a 6,000mAh battery, and it ran HiOS 16. TECNO has not issued a processor name, a commercial date, or a price, so the Berlin table is still a design study.

THE CONCEPT CALENDAR

The demo follows the company’s 4.9mm magnetic modular phone from Mobile World Congress. TECNO has a habit of rolling wild slabs through show season, from a trifold to that modular kit, and most of those units stay in the lab.

TECNO Raised the Frame to Hide the Bezel

The trick is not a screen that becomes the whole phone. Brownlee showed the metal rim sitting slightly higher than the glass, so the black display border is tucked in a shallow well. From straight on, the OLED appears to run into the frame. From the side, you are looking at a lip.

That lip is the cost of the look. When Brownlee swiped up for Home or down for notifications, his finger caught on the inner edge. A thicker glass protector might fill the step. It would also put a border back on the face TECNO just erased. A conventional case has the same problem, because there is no leftover bezel for plastic to grab without overlapping the pixels.

TECNO says it got there with advanced internal stacking, structural re-engineering, and new screen packaging that rework the display architecture. The company also said touch algorithms to cut palm input, screen acoustics, and adaptive interface software from this prototype will feed later commercial phones. The punch-hole stays. An under-display camera would have finished the “pure surface” pitch and given up selfie quality, and TECNO did not take that trade.

Xiaomi, Essential and the 1mm Floor

Phone makers have been selling the death of the bezel for a decade. The number always left a black line, a chin, or a notch. Premium phones in 2026 still carry a 1mm to 2mm border between the active pixels and the outer frame, which is the gap TECNO says it closed.

THE BEZEL SCOREBOARD

Waterfall curves tried to fake the same infinity look by bending glass over the sides, then receded when reflections, drop tests, and accidental touches piled up. TECNO’s panel stays flat on all four sides. The leftover hardware problem just moved from a black stripe into a step in the chassis.

Three Hours at Tables 501 and 503

ShowStoppers is the invitation press night that opens IFA week, not a full booth on the public floor. TECNO’s own notice puts visitors at Hall 5.3 in Berlin Messe, tables 501 and 503, from 6 to 9 p.m. on September 3. That is a three-hour window to handle the 0mm unit beside laptops, a mini PC, and the Lamborghini collection.

Press nights reward a prop you can film in ten seconds. A phone with no black border is that prop. The convertibles, the 17-inch MEGABOOK, and the POVA that launches Friday are the products a buyer can actually configure.

What the MEGABOOK Lineup Carries to Berlin

TECNO is putting three new MEGABOOK machines on the same tables, covering a convertible, a first 17-inch model, and a cheaper daily driver. The silicon is not from one Intel generation. The big “powerhouse” sits on Meteor Lake, the Core Ultra chips Intel released on December 14, 2023. The affordable K15S WCL uses Wildcat Lake, the Core Series 3 value platform Intel launched in April 2026.

THE BERLIN MEGABOOKS

The T15 360 Pro is TECNO’s first laptop with a 360-degree hinge, so it can fold into tablet and stand modes. The T17 Ultra is the screen-size play, with a battery just under the 100Wh air-travel line and a 100W GaN brick. The K15S is the volume bet. Intel’s Wildcat Lake processor datasheet describes Core Series 3 parts aimed at cheaper notebooks, with a 15W to 35W window and an NPU rated around 15 to 17 TOPS, far below the bigger Core Ultra chips.

Read that stack the wrong way up and the 17-inch machine sounds like the halo. Read the chip dates and the new platform is on the cheap SKU, while the largest MEGABOOK still wears 2023-era Meteor Lake branding.

The Lamborghini POVA Goes on Sale Friday

The concept stays a concept. The POVA 8 Pro 5G Tonino Lamborghini Limited Edition launches September 4. TECNO first tied up with the Italian lifestyle brand at MWC, and the Berlin table is where that collection gets another public pass, including a MEGAPAD 2 due in Q4 and the TAURUS mini PC.

The limited phone is a POVA 8 Pro in Tonino Lamborghini Black, with co-designed boot animations and wallpapers. TECNO’s spec sheet lists a 6.78-inch 144Hz HyperLux AMOLED at 2644 x 1208, 429 ppi, and a 93.18% screen-to-body ratio. Peak brightness is 4,500 nits, with 1,600 nits in high brightness mode and 700 nits as the normal figure, under Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. The chassis is 162.48 x 77.27 x 7.39mm and 189g.

Inside is a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Ultimate on 4nm, octa-core up to 2.6GHz, with an Arm Mali-G615 MC2 GPU. The standard POVA 8 Pro page also advertises dual gaming chipsets, pairing that Dimensity with TECNO’s P1 graphic chip and quoting an AnTuTu score of 1,010,744. The rear cameras are a 50MP OIS main and an 8MP ultrawide beside an LED “Alive Matrix” panel; the front camera is 13MP. The cell is 6,500mAh with 45W charging, on HiOS 16 based on Android 16.

That 6,500mAh pack is the mid-size POVA battery. The same family already floated an 8000mAh POVA Curve 2. Buyers who want the Lamborghini badges are paying for the skin, the boot film, and the matrix lights, on a midrange chipset, not for the 0mm lab phone sitting two tables over.

A 6.39mm Camon and a Water-Cooled Mini PC

The rest of the Berlin spread is the daily-driver catalog wearing the same press-night lighting. Two Camon Slim phones share a 6.39mm body. The 5G model is sold on thinness, imaging, and AI. The 4G Camon Slim adds a 3D-curved unibody, an AI mood lighting system, and a 50MP Sony LYTIA 600 Ultra Night Camera.

THE REST OF THE TABLE

• MEGAPAD 2 Lamborghini: An 11-inch 2.5K eye-care tablet due in Q4, in the same co-branded line as the POVA.
• TAURUS (MEGA MINI G1 Pro): TECNO’s claim for the world’s smallest water-cooled gaming PC, in an all-metal chassis with RGB, first shown with the Lamborghini tie-up at MWC.
• MEGAPAD SE 2: A study tablet with AI tutoring tools, aimed at homework rather than the Lamborghini paint.
• Watch 4 and Buds 5: A fitness watch plus earbuds rated for up to 50 hours of playtime, with a case that doubles as a phone stand.

Thursday evening the 0mm unit will be the camera magnet in Hall 5.3. Friday the Lamborghini POVA is the one with a cart and a SKU. The raised rim, the punch-hole, and the missing sale date travel home with the prototype.
