Apple Music in iOS 27: AutoMix, Lyrics Expansion, and More

Apple Music in iOS 27 received a wide set of changes at WWDC 2026, headlined by a smarter AutoMix feature. The first iOS 27 developer beta already carries the AutoMix upgrade and the new artist layout, though the album-page redesign has not yet surfaced in beta 1. A Word-Cloud Mention at WWDC

The WWDC 2026 keynote spent most of its two hours on Siri AI and Apple Intelligence. Apple’s WWDC26 teaser hint at a rebuilt Siri had pointed at exactly this focus, with the company planting the phrase in the days before the June 8, 2026 keynote. Apple Music appeared briefly, packaged inside a word-cloud slide and a supporting Apple Newsroom release the following day.

The Apple Music package itself, detailed across the developer beta and a June 9, 2026 MacRumors roundup, is one of the largest user-facing updates to the service since iOS 26 introduced AutoMix. It touches the visual layer, the audio pipeline, the lyrics tools, the Apple TV endpoint, and the way Siri AI talks to the app. Reviewers who tested the first beta describe the changes as broad but uneven, with the artist page already visible and the album page redesign not yet apparent.

AutoMix Gets a Quieter Algorithm

AutoMix is the headline change. The feature, which blends songs using matching key and tempo, was added in iOS 26 and is on by default. Apple says it has now improved the underlying algorithms to generate new transition types, aiming for cleaner blends between tracks.

Standard Crossfade remains available for users who prefer manual control. MacObserver reports that the upgrade continues to lean on tempo and musical key when picking the next transition style.

Reviews of iOS 26’s first AutoMix release were mixed, with users on Apple’s support forums reporting inconsistent transitions and dropped blends on weaker devices, and Apple has not published release notes for the iOS 27 algorithm upgrade. The official guide for AutoMix and Crossfade is still the only first-party documentation for the feature. Lyrics Tools Add Twelve More Pairings

On the lyrics side, Apple Music is also getting wider. Apple is expanding Lyrics Translation with seven new language pairings and Lyrics Pronunciation with five more. Together, that adds twelve more combinations to a feature that already covered English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish.

The seven new Lyrics Translation pairings are English to French, English to German, English to Italian, English to Korean, English to Spanish, French to English, and Japanese to English, MacRumors reports. The five new Lyrics Pronunciation pairings are Arabic to Romanized Arabic, English to Hangul, English to Katakana, Japanese to Hangul, and Mandarin Chinese (simplified) to Katakana. Apple says Lyrics Translation uses machine learning fine-tuned by language experts to preserve the emotion, cultural nuance, and original intent of each song. That same wording has appeared in Apple’s iOS 26 Apple Music features list for artists.

Apple TV 4K Finally Gets Hi-Res Lossless

On the audio side, the Apple TV 4K is the biggest single beneficiary of the package. Apple Music is bringing Hi-Res Lossless Audio to tvOS in iOS 27, in addition to the standard Lossless tier that arrived in tvOS 17.1. Subscribers with compatible external speaker outputs will be able to listen to studio-quality music directly through the Apple TV 4K.

Three years after Hi-Res Lossless launched in Apple Music, the stream is finally reaching the Apple TV 4K. Audiophile forums have spent the time since noting that the Apple TV 4K was the most obvious place for that stream to land. Pocket-lint lists Hi-Res Lossless as the standout tvOS 27 audio change in its WWDC 2026 roundup, alongside up to 30 percent faster app launches. The current third-gen Apple TV 4K still does not support Apple Intelligence or Siri AI.

For the Apple Music app itself, the move to Hi-Res Lossless is the audio change most users will notice. Apple Music now matches what dedicated hi-fi streaming apps have offered for years.

Siri AI Now Drives the Conversation

Apple Music gains deeper integration with the all-new Siri AI in iOS 27. Users can ask Siri about an artist, then follow up with a natural command like “play one of her new singles” mid-conversation to kick off a playback session without breaking the flow. The hook requires the new Siri AI, which Apple says is rolling out across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and visionOS 27.

Siri AI, which Apple confirmed in a separate press release on June 8, 2026, is the company’s first major rebuild of Siri since launch. It runs on Apple Intelligence, supports on-screen awareness, and is rolling out to developers across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and visionOS 27. Apple says Siri AI will reach users as a beta later this year in English, with more languages to follow. The new Siri also includes a dedicated app for users to revisit conversations across their products, per the press release.

The Apple Music hook works by asking about an artist and then issuing a follow-up such as “play one of her new singles” without naming the artist a second time. The new flow only works where the new Siri AI is running.

On the Apple TV 4K, the Siri AI integration is more limited. Pocket-lint reports that the current third-gen Apple TV 4K does not support Apple Intelligence at all, and Apple’s June 8, 2026 press release notes Siri AI is not yet in the watchOS 27 beta. A new Apple TV 4K is reportedly on the way, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. For now, the iPhone and the Mac are the only places where users can put the new Siri AI to work inside Apple Music.

Inside the iOS 27 build, the Apple Music app has been reworked for speed. The Now Playing view now loads faster, and streaming playback starts sooner after a fresh launch.

The reliability of Apple Music streaming also gets a boost, Apple says. 9to5Mac notes that the company did not detail what that means, but that it may address the dropped blends and hitches users have reported on mobile data. The Now Playing widget on the Lock Screen can now be swiped away to dismiss it. None of these changes is a flagship feature, but together they make the app feel more responsive on a daily basis.

Several of the changes are visible in the first developer beta. The artist page redesign is already shipping, and the upgraded AutoMix transitions are live for testers. The album page redesign has not yet appeared in beta 1, suggesting Apple may still be iterating on the layout. The performance improvements are harder to time, since Apple did not publish a release note flagging them.

When It Lands

By Apple’s standard software update schedule, the iOS 27 build of Apple Music will reach users over the summer and fall. The developer beta is live from June 8, 2026, and a public beta will follow in July, per Apple’s developer site and the Apple Beta Software Program.
